Alright, let's get serious - best replacement grill grates

First off, may I humbly suggest a new forum for this? Maybe something along the lines of "Grills and other stuff" for home ownership?

I'm looking to get new grill grates to replace the original ones on my Weber Spirit natural gas grill (yes I have a separate charcoal grill). My brother has a similar model about the same age that came with flat grates while mine has the traditional rounded type cast iron. Mine have started to wear out (rusting from the bottom and starting to get thin) even though I season them with oil for every use. So, looking for thoughts and experience from the all-knowing board on best materials and place to get a replacement set. Thanks in advance.

Man... totally not my world. I got a Blackstone about a year ago and only used it 2x.

Did use my nat gas weber more so may trade back.
 
I don’t know if you’re looking at Weber original replacement grates, but if you’re not, Amazon is having prime deal discounts right now on a lot of items. You could probably get a decent knockoff for a reasonable price.

I just bought new porcelain enameled OEM grates. For the model (Genesis 2 E300) I have, you can flip them. Fine grates for "delicate" food, or wide ones for a good sear. For years I always used the fine side. Finally realized that the wide side gives you a far better sear. Clean up of the old ones was a bitch, so I pitched them and bought new ones from the Weber website. $160. Pretty pricey.

What is your grill lineup?

Weber Genesis 2 gas grill for easy weeknight cooking. Sam the Cooking Guy's 5 minute chicken is pretty quick and easy once you get used to prepping the chicken.


And Sam is 100% right. Make a **** ton and have it for other meals all week.

Quite frankly, it does a nice job on steaks too.

Weber Master Touch 22" charcoal. Pick your color, grate, wheels, accessories.... And it shows up at your door a week later. Love the burgers. Love Chicken thighs using the cyclone. And steaks of course.

I've been on a quest for the best burger ever. Solution so far? 5.33 ounces (3 per LB). 4.5 inch ring mold. 6 or 7 minutes on the Master Touch over hickory spiked charcoal. Let that first side char up well. Quick flip, cheese, bun on top (George Motz style). Serve.


Kamado Joe standard. I used to cook on this every week. Takes a lot of time to get this thing going; that's why I bought the Master Touch. Great for thick steaks (reverse sear - best steak I've ever made). Also great for pork shoulder (pulled pork). Love spatchcock chicken too (pollo loco). Cedar planked salmon is really good in the Joe as well.

Ditch the grill

Griddles are where it’s at.
Griddles are very nice too. They offer more even heat distribution and are great for delicate foods. You don’t have that open flame to cook though, but it’s a matter of preference.
