CBS Sports - The state of "college football"

A weighted poll of AP Poll (40%), Coaches Poll (30%), and Sagarin-type of quantitative poll (30%). Then choose the top eight, and seed accordingly. The winner is Nat'l Champ. Programs will bitch over the 7th & 8th ranked teams. Most will agree on the 1st through 6th. The champ will be correct 97.3% of the time. No circus.

There is only one way to fix it. The players need to create a union, or similar. Then the NCAA and union can agree to a collective bargaining agreement where some guard rails are put in place. Right now with NIL and the portal, it is a free for all.

The players seem to be benefitting from the no rules environment. NIL is through the roof. They can leave whenever they want. Why would they unionize. They may exploit this until they destroy the sport that they love.

I mostly agree, but I’d put it this way. They know exactly how to fix it. They just can’t, because money and politics won’t let it be about football or fairness.

If this was purely competition, the solution would be simple. Clear rules, clear paths, done. Instead every move is driven by TV money, power, and legal nonsense. Imo, the playoff isn’t broken by accident. It’s broken by design. It's quite ridiculous 🙄
