Coach Campbell Press Conference 2-4-26

Max and Bob seemed pleasantly impressed with the new coaching staff and access they received today. That’s good to hear. They said Rocco’s shoulder injury is coming along and he’ll be able to participate in spring practice, although it might not be right at the beginning. Also, mentioned Arrington learning a hybrid edge rusher/linebacker position this season.

Coach Campbell seems very genuine, not that Franklin wasn't. But after the media member asked specifically about the RB's Hanson and Peoples, which very much should have included Martin as well, Campbell didn't need to stop and look down at a sheet the way Franklin often times had to in order to try to find the list of RB's before answering . And this is after just showing up not too long ago. Campbell seems all over the roster and knowing his players. A whirlwind trying to put the roster together in the last weeks.

Also liked his comment about doing their best to spread out the players among young and old at each position so that there will be players developing.

And a nice summary run through some positions on how the needs were addressed to get competition at each position with comments on what players stayed and what positions were addressed with transfers.

Was interesting to see Campbell mention the fact that Martin needs to get stronger to be a top B10 RB for PSU. I'm surprised that Martin hasn't put on more muscle during his first two years at PSU. I believe he enrolled early in 2024 so he has already gone through 2 winter S&C sessions so with his size and frame being under 200 lbs is more WR size than RB size. Cambell said Martin was up to 209 lbs now so it seems he is on track to get to 220 by the Fall. Hope he can do it without losing the speed and quickness he showed vs Clemson. He'll only be a redshirt Sophomore so he has plenty of time to break out and make his mark at PSU. With Hanson being in his last year of eligibility Martin and Peoples could be the 2 player high talent RB combo for 2027 and 2028 similar to what we have had at PSU recently.
