I thought Singleton ran hard in the playoff. Maybe pacing himself for a 17 game season.

I do want Fisher back. We need his veteran experience/maturity. He has not played a ton but he has many years in the program. We could have ate the Nevada lunch running the ball if we wanted to. See the 55ish yards rushing through first 3 drives while passing very effectively.
We needed to work on the WRs. That was the objective of this game. Heck, we largely ignored our TEs until Grunk came in. That was on purpose.
Heck, Nevada had 204 yards of offense. Reading the thoughts of some about the DEs, you would think they had 450. They couldn't do anything except let Purdy just play hero ball scrambling. I guess some here expected a negative yard performance for the day.
The more you put on film (not just no huddle), the more teams have to prepare for. At least that's how I look at it.Ill put a complaint on the board. Why in the hell are we running a hurry up offense 5 minutes into the start of a new season. In the end, we made a bad snap and settled for 3. We were the only team in the country running hurry up in Q1 in the first game of the season. With all the new players, new year, new transfers, first game gitters, new plays etc.... our coaches put more pressure on the players running a hurry up in the first quarter of the first game.
It is things like this where you scratch your head. CJF will ensure we dont win a championship.

13 of those rushes were by Wallace, Smith, and Grunk that amounted to 40 yards (3.07 ypc) behind the blended 2nd/3rd string OL (Ruili at C, Alicene at LT)I'm not convinced of that. PSU had 135 yards on 36 rushing attempts for the game. 3.8 yds/carry. Only Allen averaged over 5 yds per carry (5.4) of the RB's. PSU's rushing game was the biggest disappointment for me in watching the game.

The younger DEs initially kept getting pinched inside leave Purdy and their RB an outside path. They began to correct that mistake as the game went on.We could have ate the Nevada lunch running the ball if we wanted to. Empirically, the running game was average to poor…but for what they were trying to accomplish, it was OK. —In my mind, they know what they have in the running game. They are just trying to develop chemistry with 7 or 8 variables in the O-line. This will work itself out, and be good by game 4 or 5. —They also wanted to exercise/ develop the new WR timing with the QB which they did as they were “forced” to by Nevada overloading the box. This proved the WR are more than capable. I believe they will open up the TE room next, with a few throws to the WRs ( obviously dictated by a continued overloaded DL). This will give Oregon and other BIG teams more to scheme. I think our OL will have chemistry and depth by Oregon. Teams will have to choose what they want to stop…..the RB’s, the WR’s or the TE’s. Teams will have to “pick their poison”I'm not convinced of that. PSU had 135 yards on 36 rushing attempts for the game. 3.8 yds/carry. Only Allen averaged over 5 yds per carry (5.4) of the RB's. But it's just 10 yards added to the 135 total. Just the first game but the OL has 4 returning starters and there's really no reason not to have performed better vs Nevada. Four of the starters that ran for 300 yards vs Oregon who had a first round draft choice DT playing for them as well as lots of other NFL or near NFL talent. Seems Nevada out coached Franklin and the offensive staff, or else the team is just plain not as far along as most would have believed given the number of returning starters. The botched snap down near the goal line is part of the rushing totals. They still weren’t good but if you take that -10 yards or whatever it was out of the equation it at least seems more reasonable.

Maybe I'm viewing it through an incorrect lense, but the offense was ran through the WRs. The goal seemed to be seeing how they worked with Allar. We didn't try to lean on the run.
The timing between the new receivers and AllarWe could have ate the Nevada lunch running the ball if we wanted to. See the 55ish yards rushing through first 3 drives while passing very effectively.

I think Allen is a step faster this year and will continue to punish defenders. He runs with an attitude.Based on observation without the stats, Allen and Singleton appear to not have the speed to get to the edge consistently, although taking a pitch after an inside fake can get them to the outside. They are good running North-South when hitting the hole quickly and assisted by solid up front blocking. The more they bounce along the line, are held up, or run laterally, the fewer the yards.
I think Singleton has run a 4.3 40 yd dash.
