QB Grunk, Smolik
RB Wallace, Martin
TE Reynolds, Rapp
OL Birchmeier, Williams, Onoh, Ioane, Donkoh, Cousins, Shanahan
WR Denmark, Samuel, Outten, Exinor, Howard

IMO that's a reasonably strong group. We would need a proven WR & RB

DE Granville, Coleman, Kemaiou, plus a couple of our 4* underclassmen
DT White, Blanding, Andrews, Wafle
LB Rojas, Campbell, Wylie, Tasch, Arrington
CB Collins, Tracy, Collins (I assume Harris will go to NFL)
S Mack, Lane, Belgrave Shorter

DT is very weak and so is LB if we don't get Rojas and Campbell back. We could also use a couple of DBs.

I assume we get Barker back but have to replace Nwosu

Botton line: Go all in on keeping current players then add a WR, RB, DT, LB, and 2 DBs in the portal.

Even with Rojas and Campbell, there are no disrupters at that position. Those guys are serviceable but, along with DT, it's an area where $$$ must be spent.

Thats a great start but I don't believe either Loane or Donkoh will return as they both are likely draft choices. I'll give a try to expand on what you have.

QB Grunk, Smolik - I believe Campbell will bring in a QB with more experience and mobility than Grunk.

RB (Wallace, Martin, Smith, Coleman, Hayes) I group these all together because for whoever stays and whoever come in, if any, there will be a real start from scratch competition. We could be surprised with Coleman or Hayes being in the top rotation as they seemed to impress the staff with Coleman only showing up in the summer.

TE Reynolds, Rapp - the last few games seem to have Rapp as PSU's #1 TE as he seems to be an NFL ready blocker and as good a receiver as Reynold. Would also be great to Keep Olesh or at least one of the 2 other true freshmen TE's

OL I'll try and get positions for the OL guys that can come back minus Loane and Donkoh who I see as likely gone to the NFL
OT - Goodman, Sexton, Boyer, Alicine, possibly Williams.
Guard - Shanahan or Cousins, Williams if not at OT, Birchmeier, Onoh, Brewer, Harbour,
Center - Shanahan or Cousins, Troutman as the backup

WR Howard as one starter with the other WR's as starters and key rotational players from amongDenmark, Samuel, Outten, Exinor, Howard, and more than likely from incoming transfers.

IMO that's a reasonably strong group. We would need a proven WR & RB

DE Top 4 being Granville, Coleman, and Kemaiou and Harvey. Then from among Robinson, Williams, Burnett, Harris and Jennings. If somehow almost all of the DE's stay there's not much need for transfers
DT White, Blanding, Andrews, Wafle as well as Cook and Adirika. Wouldn't surprise me to see a couple losses to transfers here which would increase the already present need for incoming transfers.
LB Rojas, Campbell, Tatsch, Arrington would seem to be a pretty strong group if they all stay. Would also be great to see Speca return (don't know why he didn't play more this season - injured?) and possibly Smith. I'll be surprised if either Wylie or Nelson return as they seem to have gotten beaten out too many times already.
CB Collins, Tracy, Dixon, and Joseph would form a great top 4 (Harris to NFL), then maybe Johnson and Thomas (PA kid) return. A strong group if they all return.
S Mack, Lane, Belgrave-Shorter, Toure - a strong group if they all return. But only Thomas behind them if he returns. Likely need incoming portal help, only a young developmental player if they all return or starter quality player or two if some leave.

Another comment: The fact that PSU struck out with the 2026 class could help Terry and Campbell get more of the 2025 and 2024 classes players to return as their prospects for playing time in 2026 and beyond seem to increase. But we'll just have to see what the players think of Campbell running things with Terry still being an intergral part of the staff.

I don't know about that at LB. Rojas with a little more experience and maturity can be a disrupter with his speed. He really didn't hardly get started this season due to his injury. And Campbell played pretty well this season and should be bigger/stronger with a year in the PSU S&C program. Arrington seems to have the athleticism to be a disrupter, and Tatsch seems like he will be the type of instinctive player that's plays smart and makes plays as well as reportedly being a very good athlete (possibly like DeLuka but with higher end athleticism). But yes it seems that another talented LB and a couple ready to play strong and disruptive DT's would really help the defense.

QB will be interesting. Iowa State had a good kid. Beau may be in play given the five star behind him and his love of PSU. Grunk played well and deserves the slot.

Grunk holds the PSU completion percentage record 69.4%

100-144 (69.4%)
6 TD, 4 INT
Rtg 140.6

Allar's 1st full season (2023)

233-389 (59.9%)
25 TD, 2 INT
Rtg 136.9

Becht completed 60.5% of his passes this year and had a Rtg of 134.8. Most importantly he only has one year of eligibility remaining. I'd hate to bring him in and lose Grunk. It's not likely that we'll make a playoff run next year so I'd rather build for the future.

I don't think Beau is coming back. He also only has 1 year of eligibility and there's no guarantee that he'd get the starting spot at PSU.

I see Beau going to Indiana, potentially

LMAOROFL ROJAS 4 5 speed. Proven record of making big plays.
Our defense fell to pieces after his injury.
Good news..Campbell has a great DC and I assume he will cone with him. Both coordinators, Hagens and OBrien are definitely history.

Great analysis. There’s a lot of talent coming back - no question. If they keep even 80% of it that’s a good start. DT and LB is so important for PSU - if you can’t stop the run in the B10 you’re toast. Then having a pass rush as well. When we struggled defending the run this year we had major problems.

Also thought our young DEs showed great promise. Perhaps that’s Franklins going away present to PSU.

I hope you are right about the DE's being a going away present to PSU. Granville, Coleman, and Kemaiou and Harvey are a very talented young group. Granville looked like a potential All B10 player before his injury and Coleman is one in the making as well, with Kemajou and Harvey being very talented as well.

The other possibility is that a couple of the young DE's are going away (from PSU) to Franklin's VT team. That would hurt big time. Our man Terry Smith together with Campbell and his DC need to prevent that from happening!!!!

You saw IU was able to get pressure on Sayin last night, you need better DL play to do so. DT is in need of a major upgrade, and Campbell has some big young DT at ISU.
I’ve heard that Becht may go to WVU for his final year and think Grunk may serve the team better anyhow but the need for depth at that spot is huge.

While Franklin stealing current roster players is a legitimate concern, it is also very likely that these players saw firsthand how much better they played once Franklin was gone. Plus, Franklin would have to sell them on how it is good for their future to take a step down in competition. I think he could pick a few not likely to be big contributors off but those that see a path to playing time will be like, no, I'm good.

The difference for us taking key ISU players is that Campbell would be selling them on an opportunity to prove it against the best competition on the biggest stage. Also, Campbell will have had the opportunity to analyze both rosters and fill in our gaps and depth where he assesses we can upgrade.

Hopefully, the program now has a serious football guy who has "football answers to football issues".
