Drew on scrambles...

He should not be running that much against a team like Nevada. I was not impressed with the starting OL today. They allowed alot of pressure on Allar and the run game avg for their unit was not what it should be given the competition.
OL is a strength because of depth. Time will tell if they will be a strength because of quality.

There were way too many negative yardage plays. It reminded me of their game against Villanova a few years ago. Perhaps the oline has gotten a bit full of themselves this off-season with all the accolades.

Hopefully the OL was embarrased during their Sunday film reviews. James and Trautwein need to light a fire under them this week to get them on track. A pretty sorry performance on Saturday. Nevada was able to play their secondary back and take away the deep balls but yet PSU couldn't run the ball and too many drives ended in FG attempts instead of TD's.

An interesting assessment from Tengwell.

If the opposing DL and LBs see the play developing and the RB is given the ball four yards deep with very little deception coming from other backs, OL, or the QB, then the D will slant and shoot gaps to quickly get to the point of attack. The result is a gain of a yard or maybe no gain. A quick hitting, no delay handoff preceeded by some motion like faking an end around and some convincing deception by Allar might help. And if just a yard is required, then give it to long, strong Dinkins vaulting over the top, like Warren (my invention).

The Tengwall video in the previous post is an example of no deception. The D is stacked in front of where Allen is positioned and the play requires Allen to slant to where the hole is expected to be opened by perfect block execution. I believe that was what Nevada wanted. Allar performs an unconvincing fake keeper (not one defenseman looked at him). That play depended on perfection and a D-III defense to work. Poor design, poor call, poor execution.
