Florida State's problems could be worse than ours.

The Seminoles managed to lose to pathetic Stanford on Saturday so they're now 3-4 amid reports of dissension in the locker room and players openly mocking Coach Norvell whose seat appears to be red hot at the moment.

Problem is, Norvell's buyout is even pricier than Franklin's and firing the two high-priced FSU coordinators would also be costly.

You remember Florida State, a once elite program that Norvell had apparently returned to greatness after they went 13-0 in the 2023 regular season, only to get screwed out of the playoffs and then massacred by Georgia 63-3 in the bowl game. It's been straight downhill since then.

Then there's Clemson, a preseason top-5 pick currently sitting at 3-4 and ranked 10th in the ACC. Texas and LSU are also underachieving preseason predictions. LSU will be fighting for its playoff life this Saturday against Texas A&M, and if the Tigers lose, there's going to be a lot of heat on Brian Kelly who's never been a big fan favorite down in the Bayou. Texas can't afford another loss either.

So you see...we're not the only program coming apart at the seams. Doesn't that make you feel better???

Penn State, Florida State, Florida, Clemson, Texas, LSU, all severely underachieving. Obviously calls coaching into question, but should also call those who projected them to be top flight teams into question . The prognosticators should not get a pass….this is a massive underachievement by them as well. No free passes.

Except for, they're always wrong and never held accountable. Then, folks like Wolken come out and trash Franklin. They've never come close to achieving what Franklin has, yet try to tear him down. F all of the media. I never trash folks who gave it their all. We hold coaches to standards we have never achieved or maintained. Then, we think money makes trashing them justifiable.

There's something about modern mainstream media that attracts pretentious over-educated overpaid jerk-offs...and it extends even to sports media.

That said, I do like some of the sports commentators on the television networks.

It is not really the talking heads but all their research lackeys that are responsible for analyzing a team for the upcoming season. These talking heads are given talking points on all the programs. They should also be held accountable but it runs deeper than just them.

Because the bigger jerk you are the bigger ratings you get. Same with players getting endorsements. Goes way back…..Prime Time, Ali, Dennis Rodman …..all of wrestling.

Act opinionated and controversial so people call in, text, comment on social media.

It is the Truman Show.

So far, I got...

1. No money available like TX and Oregon
2. No decent coach wants to move to State College
3. All the remaining candidates have skeletons in their closests except for the ones who are not yet vetted.

It'll take some serious math to solve this one. As of now, the only ones still standing is a guy at Eastern Washington and one at Pittsburg State.

Texas and Clemson were picked right up there with PSU because of returning talent. Those returning were paid well and were guaranteed starting jobs, while the other players on the team had to practice hard in the spring and in camp in order to fill in the depth chart. A recipe for locker room issues? And, a recipe for taking things for granted.

It seems as if the NIL/ transfer portal era requires a different coaching approach that some of these coaches haven’t figured out.

I have no idea where you're getting this. We have top coaches in America involved. We simply have to wait a bit. It is only October. We also have a pile of money behind this search. Brohm is the only person without an answer regarding an interest.

  1. 1. We don't have as much NIL money as TX and Oregon unless new people are stepping up. I don't know if/how much the Addidas contract goes towards NIL.
2. A lot of "decent" coaches would see PSU as a move up but they aren't going to be the head coaches from schools like OSU, Oregon, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, or Oklahoma. We're more likely to land a coordinator from one of these schools or a HC from a lesser school.

3. Some (not all) of the remaining candidates have baggage that PSU admin would find unacceptable.

With the cost of lodging, dining, tickets (fully distributed cost), travel, and with us boomers moving on to our next gig, then I'm curious about how inelastic the demand is anymore for PSU football. I know Sweet Caroline will, but does Kim Helton or Charlie Strong pack the stadium? Does Matt Rhule or Campbell?
