Funny Pitt comment

A guy on KDKA’s Nightly Sports Call had a funny observation about tomorrow’s Pitt/Duquense game: Pitt is the home team but has to travel further than Duquesne to get to the stadium! 😹

They then went on belly aching that there is no Pitt-Penn State game every year…… 🤮

Our non conference schedule should always have at least one game that elicits some emotion, a game that means something to the fans. I'm not saying it should be Pitt every year, but someone with whom we have some history. Syracuse, BC, WVU, etc.

Yesterday was a glorified practice. It's great that a lot of guys got to play. I do get the argument that with the prospect of a really long season, depth will matter. And as more than a casual fan, I enjoy seeing the new kids play. But between now and Oregon, I also think the team would benefit from an opponent that will challenge us.

Absolutely we should have a stronger OOC schedule.

But screw Pitt. Why help them at all?

Play the others you mentioned. Or Big 12. Or lower SEC teams. Mountain West. Lots of better teams to play.

They've monetized what used to be a scrimmage.
I purposely didn't bring up the money angle. We need a certain number of home games. That's always been the problem with Pitt. That should be a 2 and 1 arrangement, not home and home.

With this expanded conference, and the new playoff format, there's a strategy to scheduling too. I'll admit I haven't thought it through. I'm just nostalgic for the days when we'd play in the kick off classic or had some good intersectional game prior to the conference schedule.

To your point, I read today that PSU had a home game scheduled with VaTech for this coming weekend. It was a home-and-home, but the first one was cancelled due to COVID in 2020. When we canceled our game, they canceled theirs. So that is how Villanova got put on our schedule this year.

Maybe someone can confirm.

Yep. We have discussed that before in previous hang out.

But next year we open with Marshal at home….at Temple….home with Buffalo. Not much better.
