They did go to some crappy conference championships and were embarrassed. Once they were 7-4 with 3 other teams. Big Least.
The ACC has egg all over its face thanks to its idiotic tie-breaker rules.
Miami is the best team in the league and would be favored over Duke by 14 points on a neutral field...but the Canes may well find themselves boxed out of the playoff.
Meanwhile, how about Penn State versus Pitt in the Pinstripe Bowl? It could happen.

Duke v Virginia. Highly possible Duke wins the title and automatic playoff spot.
Which will be fantastic. Stupid to give an automatic berth to the ACC. Stupid to take 12 teams. Just greedy having 12.
Should be eight teams. B2G winner plus SEC winner get berths. Rest determined by the two pools.
Dump the stupid committee. It’s only there to generate hype. And stroke huge egos.

They need to tell the ACC that Notre Dame has their automatic bid already. If the ACC is going to continue to play cuck to Notre Dame then their bid should be able to go to Notre Dame. Not one team in the ACC (including Miami) has a legitimate shot of winning it all. In fact, I put the odds at less than 1% that you see a ACC, Big 12, or non-power 4 team win it all in the next decade. They simply aren't at the same level as the elite teams from the SEC and Big10. No way they survive a few rounds against the top teams.
And force ND into a conference or get left out. They get to schedule ACC cream puffs and maybe have a couple of top 25 level games on their schedule and therefore a free pass into the playoff where they don't have to share the money with anyone. If the Big10 and SEC don't soon figure out that ND gets an annual free pass and keeps all of their share of playoff money every year, then Notre Dame will eventually have more resources than any team in the Big10 and SEC. Make them play by the same rules as everyone else.

Also probable that if Duke wins, that Zero ACC teams get in. AQ bids go to the 5 highest ranked conference champs.
Tulane and JMU are currently ranked higher than Duke and poised to win their conferences.
