Huge day for wrestling

33-5 shows that drop outs never mattered.
I think some of that was Ohio St ducking tough matches trying to protect the seeds of their wrestlers for tournament time. Some was health but we rolled out Davis in spite of his recent health issue in a match that he was likely to get handled.

Loved seeing a few of our guys out-punch their ranking coming into the match with big upsets- Blaze staying undefeated against #2 Davino, Mirasola taking down #3 Feldman in overtime to steal the win capping it off, and even Lillidahl showing why he is #1 handling #2 Bouzakis.

The match that surprised me to the downside was Welsh needing a 3rd period comeback to barely beat #8 Fishback. I thought he showed heart but not really his best wrestling. Still got it done.

Welsh didn’t look good at all. Don’t know if was health, bad match is style, or poor attitude.

He cranked it up when needed like a champion….but he got lucky.

And Rocco was somehow named outstanding wrestler? Several other guys were more deserving. But glad he wrestled the last minute and a half.
I said the same thing. How was he outstanding wrestler? I'm pretty sure Cael will have a discussion with him about how whatever that was isn't going to win him a championship. Glad that he pulled off the comeback but if he wrestles like that at tourny time, he isn't going to win it all.

IMHO, this wrestling team may be the best overall sports team in Penn State History. The B1G and NCAA championships will determine.
Shane, the announcer, said the only guy to graduate will be Van Ness. But later another wrestler was shown as a senior….can’t remember which.

But if only two are graduating they will be even better next year.

And they have a world champion in Ono in a redshirt. Nate Desmond has been crazy impressive in a few appearances during a redshirt year as well. Then you have Kasak as well who has finished 3rd nationally twice but is behind Duke. Tons of depth and who knows who else they could potentially add that forces their way in next year. But man, just so dominant this year, I'm going to hold off projecting for next year and enjoy this season.

A 2nd team of Lions would probably be in the top ten teams.

Van Ness is a Junior. The only starting Senior is Levi Haines - #1 ranked, 17-0 at 174 lb. Next year's team will be another great one.
I musta misunderstood the announcer. He said only one was graduating while Van Ness was wrestling and I thought that was who he was talking about 🤷🏽‍♀️
