I am hearing rumors about amnesty plans

That the democrats didn't think Trump would get the funding to deport 10m illegals. And that the business community is stuck with these illegals lest there by quite a large disruption. That leaves a negotiated settlement path. I've heard that the Trump administration is open to it as long as the terms are favorable to the GOP. I wouldn't be shocked to see some kind of negotiated settlement announced in the next several months. From my understanding, Trump is looking at it as long as no illegals can be counted in the census nor be allowed to vote. That they can only get federal money (Medicare, SS, etc.) if they've paid into it for X number of years. That way, it kills the motivation for democrats to open the borders back up when they get back into power.

I think this would be a good thing for everyone.

Don't like it one bit. This just encourages illegals to stay illegal.

Is it practical to deport all of them? Of course not. But amnesty is a terrible idea.

Maybe you spin it to be something else, like a long path towards legal residency as long as you have zero other criminal record. But don't make it feel like they're getting a break.

There are tons of people trying to do things the right way that amnesty for illegals would be a huge slap in the face to.

No thank you 🙂‍. If you want to give them working visas such as H-2A for seasonal agriculture workers, that is fine with me. Reagan botched this and allowed 2.7 million illegals to receive amnesty. California has never been the same. Now the state has an illegal underground economy that operates on those workers, not to mention it’s essentially a one party state politically. Of course, the government didn’t enforce the laws already on the books by punishing employers who use illegal as employees. Also, illegals should never have been part of the census count to begin with. That’s just common sense.

Agree. Identify some criteria for people who will be allowed to stay but they get no benefits, no voting rights, and no path to citizenship.

Also implement an e verify system and employers to violate in the future the law should be severely punished. I'm OK with more work permits in areas of need.

Need to make birthright citizenship not apply to those who didn't immigrate legally.

That anchor baby loophole needs to end.

On its face, I agree with you. But as a matter of practicality, deporting 10,000,000 is very disruptive and bad optics politically. If they can get a sponsor and show that they've been employed and paid into the system for three years without getting anything other than a minor traffic violation, I can live with it.

This issue needs to be put to bed once and for all.

I'll also add that ICE is making some very "visible" displays (line in LA today with an armored vehicle). That kind of smells of negotiation to me.

I always viewed this as impossible. Pushing out 10M people. And you create this modern day trail of tears.

But with the permission he has, Trump can use the government deportations to target places where it hurts wealthy people the most to get what he wants.

I think most Republicans would accept the 10M with the fixes to border, reduction of visas, and no more anchor babies.

It's a win win because those here illegally now would become Trumpers.

I’m ok with the mass deportations and the economic disruptions of the employers being financially damaged by hiring illegals. I can’t relate to either of those parties because I’m not in the country illegally and I’ve never employed someone who is illegal. I’m willing to sacrifice some short term gains for basic enforcement of the law. Unfortunately, accountability is a long forgotten notion these days.

I don't really disagree on merit. But many businesses HAD to hire illegals because they were competing against companies that did at a far cheaper price. If you are in San Antonio or San Diego and offer yard services without hiring illegals, you will be in business about 34 minutes before going bankrupt. These "sanctuary cities" created this environment where you had no choice. Sucks to put them out of buiness because the locals couldn't manage their govt.

I'm not against amnesty for illegals that have been here and contributed for a period of time.

The key will be what is easier and more beneficial to the immigrant. The normal path to citizenship ought to be.

So we're just going to let a bunch of murderers, rapists, drug dealers/smugglers, gang members and assorted other ne'er-do-wells stay because there's something in it for Trump and/or the Republicans?

I mean, they're criminals. They broke the law by entering or staying illegally. We're going to reward that?

No. anyone who has anthing worse than a traffic violation is out. I think I said that in my post. And that is pure speculation on my part.

So those who were here, with nothing to worry about until Trump swooped in and rightfully made them live in fear for their own safety and well-being, as they watch fellow illegals, who may be friends, family members or other acquaintances, being sent back to their home country to possibly be harmed ... would then support Trump if he granted them a stay of deportation execution just to get some benefits thrown back his way?

Oh, I thought they were all murderers and rapists. But how do we know they won't commit a crime in the future? Just one illegal over the border who we know is here illegally ... if we leave these criminals here, and they eventually do something bad ... that's blood on our hands, no?

They should also pay a reasonable fine. Additionally, no free passes for those who are affiliated with/support terrorist organizations, Tren deAqua, MS-13, or others who have been convicted of rape, trafficking (people or drugs), violent crimes, or known cooperation with the Cartels. They need to be deported.
The workers need to come forward for determination if they are using stolen SSNs. Is so, stop it and give them some kind of new ID for immigrants that can be used for tracking of their ID and activities.

The Art of the Deal

I must have missed that chapter.

So, LionDeNittany trespasses with a bunch of his buddies, cutting across a yard every day on the way to school. Saves you guys a bunch of time, and hassle, as there's a rough part of town you'd have to go through if you didn't cut through his yard. Bad stuff has happened to you guys when forced to go through there. Eventually, the house is sold and a new owner comes in, and starts screaming at you, calling you murderers and rapists, and then calls the cops on you, sending some of your buddies to jail for trespassing. Maybe even your brother and sister. They get kicked out of school, even. You don't get caught. Later still, the new owner says "hey, tell your parents if they give me $500, I'll let you pass through my yard."

Suddenly you support the new home owner?
