one thing is for sure, the next HC will be expected to win a Natty within the next five years.I like Pat Kraft.
Yeah Terry seems like a good dude and I liked his answers to all the questions thrown at him. Props to him as I'm sure it was difficult with all the emotions over the last 24 hours.I'm glad that Terry Smith's getting a shot.
Probably, but even a 50/50 record against highly ranked teams will buy him some timeone thing is for sure, the next HC will be expected to win a Natty within the next five years.
Make it three years and we have a deal.one thing is for sure, the next HC will be expected to win a Natty within the next five years.
I don’t necessarily think that. I do think that he will be expected to compete for one during that time, specifically getting to at least a semi’s. But I also think he’ll be expected to have a much better record than one and 25 against top 10 teams.one thing is for sure, the next HC will be expected to win a Natty within the next five years.
he is going to have to have a better record than CJF. And that means one or two additional wins per year. But CJF, until now, had a GREAT record of not getting upset in games when PSU was favored. Honestly, I think CJF is in the top ten. So I think the PSU hire needs to be a name brand. We've done it before at the university so we can do it again.I don’t necessarily think that. Franklin was pretty good at beating the team he should, other than the times he didn’t. Like his three and four record against Northwestern losing to Illinois and that million overtime game, the terrible game at Michigan State with a lightning delay, etc..he is going to have to have a better record than CJF. That is true with every team whose name doesn't rhyme with suckeyes. Oregon lost to Indiana, and Michigan lost to USC last weekend. Last season, ND lost to Northern Illinois and got booed off the field before playing for a natty against that team that rhymes with suckeye.Franklin was pretty good at beating the team he should, other than the times he didn’t. I don't know about that. The new guy may have to put a class together in a hurry, so the first year or two may be a little rough depending on how things fall out. I think it's a trajectory thing. The new guy has to convince Kraft, donors, and the fanbase that we're on the right trajectory. I think a breakeven record or close to it against Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, and now Indiana is a must.one thing is for sure, the next HC will be expected to win a Natty within the next five years.
I don't think anybody can be expected to win a Natty. A lot of things have to fall into place when you're competing with a dozen teams with as much or more resources than you have. I think it's reasonable for PSU to expect to reach the playoffs 3 or 4 out of 5 years and see what happens from there.one thing is for sure, the next HC will be expected to win a Natty within the next five years.
I forgot about USC above - they looked good Saturday, so they'll also be a potential problem to deal with, as well. I expect us to be a team with a shot at the natty every 3-5 years, although if we get the right coach, it may be more frequent than that. Success breeds success.I don't think anybody can be expected to win a Natty. OSU, Oregon, USC, and Michigan have more $$$ than PSU and that's just in the BiG. Teams like Washington & Wisconsin are also in the mix. Now add SEC teams like Texas, A&M, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. Add Notre Dame and Oklahoma plus the occasional wildcard. That's more than a dozen teams with a legitimate shot at being #1.
Besides, PSU isn't likely to compete the next year of two because recruits are leaving and they're in rebuilding mode.
Completely agree. Letting a historically 10+ win coach go to get a 10+ win +2 more is rarified air. This is possible, and I think it can happen, but there’s not much room for error. If it doesn’t occur, it will make the original “fire” look galacticly foolish.— If you trade a 320 hitter, you’d better get a 350 hitter… Has to be a home run. Michigan losing to USC is not in the same universe as the losses you responded to. USC has more talent on their roster than Michigan, as well as a better QB and better coach. That is true with every team whose name doesn't rhyme with suckeyes. My view is the Cael of coaching is Kalen DeBoer. But we stole a coach from ISU before. I wonder what Matt Campbell could do with more resources?Kraft will have to take Pegula with him when he finds who he believes is the Cael of college football coaching.....
