For some reason Georgia was gifted a win because Tennessee can't kick the game winner and that causes them to jump Oregon. Other unexplained moves like 0-2 Notre Dame being ranked and Iowa St who barely beat Ark St moving up 2 spots just outside of the top 10.

It’s ESPN, they’re beholden to the SEC. If they put Oregon at 5 or higher, that would mean the BIG was 60% of the top 5. Not a narrative they want to entertain
—And, yeah, Tennessee outright lost the game rather than Georgia playing better for the win.

UGA beat Tennessee. No gift. 42 yard FGs aren't gimmes. High pressure situation. They should have been mixing run and pass to get the kick closer. Got to overtime and set the kicker up with the same kick, which he makes with less pressure.

UGA gets the ball and runs it in in like 3-4 plays. Good road win.

ND probably shouldn't have received votes, but they are still likely a top 25 team in power rankings (as is Florida). This is why I think the rankings should start this week or later, but I digress.

PSU is getting the benefit of the doubt.

LSU beat Florida
Miami beat ND
GA beat Tennessee
A&M beat ND
Oregon has played better teams than PSU

PSU hasn't earned #2. Let's hope they earn it in 2 weeks.

Disagree. Georgia was gifted an inexplicable 5 yards from a Tennessee OL, changing a more reasonable 37 yard FG to a less reasonable 42 yard FG with the added kicker psychological stress of losing those 5 yards. —The OL gifted them

Oregon has beaten 1-2 Montana St who is not even listed in the S&P+ rankings, 1-1 #82 Oklahoma St (1 win over Ut Martin), and #83 1-2 Northwestern (1 win over W. Illinois and was beaten by Tulane by the same margin that Oregan beat them). Next week Oregon plays 0-3 #107 Oregon St.

Northwestern, if they have played better teams than PSU, it was only marginally better. Neither team has played anyone yet.

FIU is 2-1, Nevada 1-2 (other loss by 1 point), and Villanova is a playoff team at the next level down. Our schedule is weak to this point but so is Oregon's.

I certainly agree that Oregon's schedule has been weak but it's probably been better than PSU's schedule. Oklahoma State is a trainwreck but they're better than Nevada. They also played Northwestern and this week they play Oregon State. Villanova isn't even DI.
