Fascinating

His comments that Terry Smith has broad support from players and Alumni will get all the press, BUT….

His comments that he’s ‘tired of coaches outside the Penn St program using it to just to get money’ were even more interesting to me.

My interpretation of that was him referring to CJF and Jim Knowles.

Thoughts?

My sense is that he was referencing high end coaches at other schools (Indiana, Nebraska, etc)who were “under consideration “ for the PSU job. Several used it to “ leverage” raises/contract extensions at their existing schools. —I agree with Mike’s observation, but Franklin used the same ploy at least twice during his tenure here get raises/extensions. Unfortunately,This is the coaching/agent landscape of today…it sucks

This is why there is No excusing JF's performance in big games. 104-45 is meaningless when only 1 of the 104 is against OSU or other top ranked teams in a meaningful game. JF raised the expectations directly by his repeated "elite" comments. He used speculation around other vacancies to renegotiate his contract for more money, more years, and better terms. He raised the stakes and his bluff was exposed. JF is an elite politician. He isn't an elite FB coach.

Meh. Terry is the ‘backup quarterback’. Team has made great progress under Terry. But let’s not get carried away.

A pitch is made to Kraft about the local guy being given a chance, a la Apollo Creed's promotional pitch about fighting a hometown boxer. Kraft spins in his chair toward the window, takes a minute to make sense of it all with Mt. Nittany in view, relights his cigar, then looks up and responds: "I like it. It's a risk, but I like it. With the right GM and a lot of financial and staff support needed for quickly assembling a team, we just might be able to pull it off. The fanbase will be made whole, we sell a lot of seats, make the playoffs, and perhaps win a natty or two. And I can see a blockbuster movie coming out of all this. Let's get to work!"

Speaking of backup QBs, there is a small part of me that wishes Allar got to play in a PSU offense that is willing to throw the ball down the field. It's like we never got to see the kid actually play
Agreed. I’ve haven’t seen PSU WRs open like they were against Neb in years. And the announcers kept saying their pass defense was their strong suit.

Nice fictional movie script.

You never know. Penn State hired a guy who, with three years as a head coach, took his team to the Music City and Compass Bowls. Then, in his ten years at Penn State, his team won a Big Ten Championship. So history can repeat itself.
