Mission accomplished by SEC refs

The final score of that Egg Bowl is misleading. The game was competitive in the first half.

But the Rebels got away with an obvious OPI push-off for one touchdown while the Bulldogs were flagged for two totally bogus DPI penalties to keep Ole Miss drives alive at critical times.

Of course it's just a strange coincidence...NOT...that the conference would benefit immensely from an Ole Miss win as that would guarantee them a spot in the playoffs whereas if they lost, they'd likely be out and the SEC would lose a spot.

No, that wouldn't explain anything about how the game was called.

Meanwhile, the ABC commentators spent a total of one solid hour speculating about stupid Lane Kiffin's world-altering decision on his coaching future at Ole Miss. Spoiler: He's leaving to take the LSU job...you heard it here first.

Anyway, I finally had to turn the sound down and watch the game on mute.

Three days later: Kiffin bolts. What a shocker! NOT.

I mean, it was so obvious that the man was lying through his teeth when he told a network interviewer after beating Mississippi State that he was still struggling with the decision. Please.

Good for Ole Miss in shutting the door in Kiffin's face with regard to coaching the team in the playoff...in the face of Kiffin's reported threats to poach his staff and players if not allowed to coach.

This is everything wrong with the Brave New World of college football. Coaches are for sale. Players are for sale. And the fans keep drinking the Kool-Aid. I guess we can't help ourselves at this point.

They may well kill off the interest in college sports. College basketball is the same. Free agency all the time and no caps on spending is not sport. It is buying championships. When the same exact teams get their playoff spots annually for enough years, people will just tune out. I may not watch any of this year's college football playoff. Other than Indiana, it just isn't interesting to me.

Some of that has to do with our current team and likely infighting over NIL and playing time. Then Franklin looking out for only himself trying to leverage our playoff run last year for more pay yet again and then giving up after 1 loss. The new college football sucks. "Team" doesn't really matter.

Agreed...but I'll watch anyway. Can't help myself. College football is really the only sport that I closely follow anymore, and Penn State is the only team that I have a rooting interest in. Hard to let all that go after almost 60 years of emotional investment.
