And I’ll be interested to see how this plays out….

-Franklin seemed to raise the stakes in terms of recruiting many 4 star players and the occasional 5 star. Although his average recruiting class rankings over 12 years wasn’t top 5 it did seem to improve the talent in the building after sanctions.
-so far MC has gotten some 3 star former ISU recruits to come to PSU. Which has been important to save the 2025 recruiting class. And more may be coming.
***Ill be interested to see how MC fares in getting similar or greater numbers of 4 & 5 star talent to come to PSU. This is an important pipeline to championship level teams (ex Georgia, Alabama, OSU).
-and as revealed in today’s ESPN article on PSUs coaching search (hate to admit I read something on espn) it revealed that Kraft initially backed away from MC because of intel (false?) that he didn’t handle higher level recruiting well (ie 4&5 star recruits).
-I’m hoping he’ll kill it in recruiting 4&5 star players now that he should have the opportunity, as this will be an important link to developing championship teams. And that ISU just didn’t provide the opportunity (financial or programmatically) to get commitments from those guys

Hopefully he pulls in some good players from the portal. The class next year certainly needs more 4/5 star players. I understand that he and those around him develop players, but there is a limit on how far that will take us.

I don't believe Franklin raised the stakes in terms of rcruiting 4 star and 5 star players. Maybe from O'Brien, who had a tough assignment trying to attract players to a scholarship limited roster, but not from JoePa. Paterno regularly recruited some of the top 5 players at their positions, and had the #1 class in the country at least once but that may have been at the beginnings of the rating services so it may be hard to confirm at this point. For example, Arrington may have been the #1 player in the country.

Any competent coach such as Campbell given the required resources to compete within the rules (now ever changing) should be able to consistently bring in top 15 classes to PSU, which now has top facilites in addition to a game day atmosphere second to none. Additionally, the PSU student section is regularly rated the best or at least top 5 in the country. So I don't believe Franklin's consistent top 20 classes with an occasional top 10 is anything more than average to below average considering the resources available at PSU. And Franklin seemed slow to adjust to the NIL era recruiting strategies which contributed to his recent failures in big games.

I'll be very surprised if Campbell doesn't pretty consistently recruit top 10 once he gets his feet on the ground at PSU and develops the relationships necessary in PSU's traditional recruiting region, PA, OH, NJ, VA, MD, NC, NY, MI.... Maybe by the 2028 or 2029 classes it would be fair that he should have had an equal footing with the other top 15 programs and could be expected to get the best players in PA and fill in a top 10 class. But I hope he surprises me and gets there before that!!

Things are different now, so its hard to compare recruiting. Before NIL, you only had to persuade a recruit and a family on how well the school would prepare the student for the next step in life. That has changed. Now schools are in bidding wars for top talent. Deep pockets bring in better talent. Not only do you have to persuade the student and his family, you have to negotiate with an agent and his accountant.

And having a couple million in one's pocket by age 19 makes Lubbock a perfectly good place to spend a few years.
 
I don’t know why anybody would think we would have a four-star or higher recruit in this current 26 class. By the time he got the job, our former coach had already taken whoever he wanted or at least told all of the class to look other places. There are maybe half dozen of the top 100 who hadn’t committed at that point so CMC was never going to get anything higher than what he’s been able to get. The opening at Michigan and potentially Notre Dame and maybe one or two others may allow some of the committed ones to look elsewhere, but I don’t know why anybody would think he would’ve been able to have any four-star recruits in this group.

All of the 27 guys he’s offered and almost all of them are still putting PSU high on their list. I would assume next year‘s class will be a top 20 class once he gets this defensive coordinator and defensive wine coach settled. Could go even higher if he hires someone who can get into the mid Atlantic like the previous staff
