The real beauty of this song is it makes one realize how dangerous this work is and think about all those over the centuries.

People have no idea how dangerous the Great Lakes are. Unlike the oceans, the lakes are far less predictable. I know, where I live, a 20mph wind from the south is just pleasant. But if that wind comes from the W, NW, N or NE, we'll get 5+ foot waves with severe undertows. People drown on a regular basis. And don't get me started with ice fisherpersons and ice flows.
