Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald

"The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was named after Edmund Fitzgerald, who was the chairman and president of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, the firm that owned the ship."
There's some irony in there somewhere.

People have no idea how dangerous the Great Lakes are. Unlike the oceans, the lakes are far less predictable. I know, where I live, a 20mph wind from the south is just pleasant. But if that wind comes from the W, NW, N or NE, we'll get 5+ foot waves with severe undertows. People drown on a regular basis. And don't get me started with ice fisherpersons and ice flows.

When I lived in Cleveland, I would wake up in the morning during the winter and sometimes there would be cars stuck on the ice out in the lake.
I live in the Watergate Towers (?).
Too long ago to remember the exact name.
