Knowles apparently thought Sayin would be bothered by the blitz and we could get to him. We couldn’t and their WRs were great and our coverage was a step behind.

Despite the fact that we can’t stop the run, Ohio St apparently thought passing the the ball could win the game for them and they were right. And we’ve been told our Pass D is our defensive strongpoint. That was wrong.

All that to say I was disappointed in how we came out for the 2nd half. Thought there’d be better emotion and execution after cutting it to 3. There wasn’t.

I also was impressed with how Ohio St repeatedly pushed the ball vertically upfield to their wideouts. We had some of that last year with Warren but I can’t remember the last time PSU was able to do that with our WRs and with any consistency.

This is the worst PSU defense I can remember.
  • - DT is very weak. We were hoping Ford to make an impact but that hasn't happened.
  • - DE is average at best. DDS was supposed to replace Carter but he hasn't lived up to expectations.
  • - LB is a disaster. Campbell gets a B but the rest get a D. Recruiting has been horrible.
  • - DBs are seriously lost. Harris was supposed to be a 1st round pick but he has regressed. The safeties look like they're confused about their assignments.
Most of us expected the defense to take a small step back after losing Carter, Reed, & King but this is a total embarrassment. Ford and Fisher haven't lived up to expectations and Rojas' injury was a killer. Add that there seems to be a lot of confusion under Knowles.
 
The talent just isn't there like bdroc said. Franklin just isn't a good talent evaluator. His words of "best combined personnel ever at Penn State" is perfect example of it.

When a college teams WR’s are more talented than two thirds of the NFL teams they are going to throw the ball regardless of their success running the ball…..

OMG. Do you mean that you are aloud to pass the ball more than 10 yards forward? Who knew?
 
Coach Smith, have you had detailed discussions with your coordinators as to how they see Indiana's strengths and weaknesses and how they will be adjusting for them? Or will status quo be the plan?
