Franklin has had his chances, it's time he moves along.
If another team wants him they might be willing to pay part of his exit fee. But I don't see any top 15 team offering him more than $8 million at this point.I'm going to attempt to put myself in Franklin's shoes. He can't be happy with himself or with he and his family now being in a toxic environment. At some point, even leaving money on the table is good for mental health. And already being financially secure helps. Almost every person I've known, me included, have at some point either moved on to a new job or talked about it, even if it included less compensation. When you hit 60, then retiring early to Key West, Bar Harbor, or Amalfi start entering your head. I think Kraft and Franklin will hammer something out.
Very well stated.Franklin has been the coach for a long time..... a long time in coaching cycles. When he was hired he was given a chance and everyone said he needs a chance to recruit....ok... then he needed a chance to recruit "his guys"... then he needed to get "his staff" in place.... then is was he needed to recruit "better players".. and then it was 6 yrs of "better coaches" and "this is the guy(s) I always wanted".... and then it was "recruit more top talent" and then it was..."more NIL money" and then " elite talent requires more NIL money" and we need "elite facilities to attract elite talent".....
During this time, other teams have recruited, developed, and won. They have won with great coaching and good / great talent. Some teams have great talent.... better than PSU. Lets be honest, PSU has **** good talent over the years.
At PSU and with the schedule, a decent coach can win 9 games... maybe 10. We out-talent 80% of out schedule. Franklin has done this and many other coaches could do this also. PSU is loaded with history, money, facilities, reputation....which Franklin for FREE. The next coach will get this also.
At every step, Franklin injects an excuse to cover for his coaching. PSU fans are enablers to this... oh Franklin is a nice guy, Franklin is a good face for PSU, Franklin players are respectful.... all true... but Franklins coaching a average. The players change and coaches change ( alot) but the problems are not addressed.... "We have to clean that up". Well.... Franklin is not a great coach and he is fortunate to be sitting on a gold mine in PSU where a average coach can win 80% year in and year out. This guy has been paid well and he has great players. He is not a great coach which PSU deserves. His record against great teams indicates he is an average coach...
The second to last excuse is "who will PSU get because we dont want to become Nebraska". Well, this is a good question. Others may disagress, I would rather try an win it all than settle for excuses. This to me is not trying to do everything to win. The game has changed. Coaches are paid millions, payers are paid millions, and alums are asked to give millions. Go find another coach.... there are lots of good coaches. Dont make this an excuse.
The final excuse is the buyout it too big. Negotiate like every other coaching situation. If Franklin says he has to have it all.... that will follow him and to his next potential job. . If he is smart... he negotiates as leaves. He can coach again.
Lastly.... for PSU fans... Joe is gone, Sandusky situation is 13 years ago, and the game has changed. Put it in the past.... like the 94 team and the championship teams, and undefeated seasons. Joe is an impossible measuring stick. There will not be another Joe. PSU fans need to let that **** go. It was great.... awesome.... sin Sandusky, but **** it is decades ago. Game has changed, times have changed..... and it has now turned out that.... winning is the only measuring stick.
PSU needs to win. Franklin needs to go and the excuses need to stop.
He's already gone and it's mutual. He will not be coaching this coming weekend. The reason coaches demand long contracts is for seasons like this one.
I'm no Franklin fan, and he is going to extract as much pain going out as he has coming into this contract.
It is who he is.
He won't 'move along'

Inside info? He's already gone and it's mutual. He will not be coaching this coming weekend.
Joe became coach while I was at state. He had a lot of great and a few bad years. $ speaks. Players are pros now and must be expected to win now and the same for coaches. My prayers go up for coach Smith as he works to put a very broken football team back together. He is a perfect interim choice.Franklin has been the coach for a long time..... a long time in coaching cycles.
