- Team played hard whole game and in OT
- Defense ran out of gas
- Want to establish running game to then take shots down the field, but OL has not been consistent
- How is Allar better than last year? Inconsistent. Not a good situation for a QB when you get in 3rd and long situations.... Didn't Allar contribute to getting into those 3rd and long situations....?
- Franklin's not going to let a few losses (in about all the big games) define his career. (even if the rest of us do...)

Our next 3 games are @ UCLA, vs Northwestern, and @ Iowa. We should win all 3 but 3-0 before going to OSU is not guaranteed.

UCLA is last in the BiG in scoring at 14.3 pts per game. I can't imagine PSU losing that one.

Northwestern is next to last in BiG scoring at 19 pts per game but sadly they had more yards of offense against Oregon than PSU did. That tells me that they have a fighters chance but probably less than 10% since the game is at PSU.

Iowa is 14th in the BiG in scoring at 29.4 pts per game. Their two losses were against nationally ranked Iowa State and Indiana where they scored 13 and 15 pts respectively. The game is in Iowa which gives them a chance. Maybe 25%.

I think Iowa's chance is more like 40% @ their stadium. Parker was able to keep Indiana's offense way below their average and IU's is much more adept than PSU's.

Therein lies the problem. He doesn't have a PSU diploma on his wall. He doesn't have an emotional interest in "the brand". And his big contract removes any personal urgency. He'll honor the terms of his contract, but "if things don't work out, then they don't workout". It's probably reflected in his model of PSU being a conduit to the NFL for his players. But I guess that's how both the admin and trustees see the university. It's a business.
Which has me thinking that maybe Matt Rhule would succeed at PSU. Just putting it out there.

I think those are good points but Iowa only scored 13 against Iowa State and 15 against Indiana. I think we have a better defense than either of those teams so it might only take 2 TDs to win. Either way it's not a gimme game.

With all due respect I think you might be mischaracterizing CJF. He is a native Pennsylvanian and I believe he embraces the PSU culture. I think he is too stubborn to allow a movement away from an offensive style he feels comfortable having influence over and until he does, the status quo continues and he'll remain defensive in pressers.

No problem. These boards are for facts, speculating, and general banter. I'm not sure if being a Pennsylvanian automatically defaults to be a Penn Stater. Had Franklin ever been up to UP for a Penn State game prior to his being hired? If Pennsylvanian Dan Marino were hired as Penn State's coach, would he have fully bought in? Not a huge deal, but it might explain the level of passionate commitment and the urgency in delivering a nat'l championship. As far as CJF's stubbornness and defensiveness, I'll give you that.

Nebraska has some decent team stats so far the season. #12 in points, #13 in total yards, #2 in passing yards, #1 in passing yards allowed, #14 in total yards allowed. Beat Cincy, lost by three to Mich. Just adding to my Rhule comment.

I always enjoy exchanging thoughts with you.

I have thought about this with all these coaches. It is a job and they get paid, very different perspective from a life long fan. Not saying they are not passionate about winning but these coaches never even focused on PSU football until they got the job and that includes Franklin. Is Mike Yurcich still following PSU football? No

As I said it is a job for them. They have moved on and don't agonize about the losses like we do. I guess that is good but do they want to win as much as a loyal fan for 50 years? I don't think they do. Franklin is from PA. Was he loyally watching and following Penn State football since he was 10 for example? No. Different perspective vs a fan.
