2025/26 Transfer Portal & Roster Changes Thread

Position Groups (Rooms) that have improved/dropped off so far from portal acquisitions IMHO (quality of room scale 1-10; does not consider graduating or NFL-bound "drop-outs")...
WR: ☝️ 4.5 -> 7
LB: ☝️ 5.5 -> 7
QB: ☝️ 6.5 -> 8
RB: 👎 7 -> 5.5
OL: ☝️ 7 -> 7.5
DT: 👎 6.5 -> 3.5
DE: 🤙 6.5 -> 6.5
CB: 🤙 7 -> 7
S: ☝️ 7 -> 7.5

Just get all rooms up to an 8 and 2026 should be good to go.
Based on the above scientific analysis, getting out the checkbook for DTs, a DE, and a RB (all non-ISU 4*/5*) is the next step in completing this team.

Central PA, cold, rainy weather. Pounding the ball is still the key to victory. The OL looks like it could be good in this area, although I'm not completely sure. The few RBs currently on the team are good, but not at the Allen or vintage Singleton level. I'm not sure if it's a sprinter who can get to the edge or a nasty 230-pounder who can convert a third and goal situation that is needed (a quicker Hansen). Both would be nice.
Again, I like the current RB room, but something seems missing.

Note: No RBs who run directly into the pile and stop. Looking for twisters, turners, and bouncers who can get those first downs. Somebody like this, as ISU experienced first hand...

Heavy on 3* players which isn't very exciting to me.

It worked for Indiana to grab players from lower tier schools that have outplayed their rankings there.
Where else has it worked?

Indy took a lot of players from James Madison who dominated the Sun Belt Conference. We've taken a lot of players from 4 loss teams at Iowa State.

I'm not taking a shot at the incoming players. I'm just pointing out that our combined 2026 class (HS recruits + transfers) is ranked 43rd in the country and 11th in the BiG. We're ranked below teams like Rutgers & Syracuse. Indiana is ranked 14th.

IMO the rebuild is going to take a minimum of 3 years.

Are HS recruits even a concern anymore? 4* & 5* players can move around at anytime to find the right team and the right money. It's possible (but not probable) that Grunk could get his reps in at AAA VT, then get brought back up to PSU. Anything and everything is on the table at this point.

Iowa St was 8-4 this year and 11-3 last year (lost some key players to NFL) in the Big12. I'm pretty sure that is better talent level than 2023 11-2 JMU who lost to 2 of 3 power 4 conference teams that they played that year (12-2 Oregon L, 10-4 Louisville L, 5-7 Wash St W).

We are taking the best of that Iowa St roster and combining it with the majority of what we wanted to keep from PSU's roster. I think we will be better than many fans are projecting.

I feel for teams like North Texas who kicked a$$ this year and get rewarded by having their entire coaching staff and almost all of their players raided by power 4 teams. Also, with this dynamic, why are we going to waste playoff teams on non-power 4 teams anymore? We know that they are automatic wins for the teams lucky enough to get matched with them and it is just taking money away from power 4 conferences. It's a different level of football.

An interesting exercise. Including the 2026 HS recruiting classes, which team at this point has the better roster leading into 2026, VT or PSU?
