2025/26 Transfer Portal & Roster Changes Thread

Wow, this would not surprise me. Reporters are alleging that Lane Kiffen had his Ol Miss staff "leak" the NIL player deals at Ol Miss to get them to leave and come over to LSU. Really dirty pool as well as illegal. I am sure he and the staff had confidentiality clauses in their contracts.

This is just beyond crazy, but yeah wouldn't be surprising in the least

What makes illegal? It is certainly dirty and unethical.
Maybe it falls under industrial espionage or

"Employees who intentionally harm a business can be held liable for their actions under various legal theories, including tort law and breach of fiduciary duty. Employers may also pursue claims for damages if the employee's actions were outside the scope of their employment or involved criminal conduct."

It may even apply to lame duck coaches telling falsehoods to recruits.

With these guys, the guys that stayed on, and the CMC staff, I don't see many areas where we'll be disappointed. There's enough talent and these guys have been screened for work ethic.
I think we will have a good season. Anything more than 9 wins will require some luck a probably an upset or 2. The schedule is weird with the 3 away games in a row and then the long stretch of home games.

I'm not as optimistic as you seem to be. It does seem that the ISU players that Campbell brought with him will fill some key starting spots such as at QB, LB and a Safety. And the big DT's should solidify that position along with the couple of young holdover DT's. But other than at QB I don't believe the talent level of the incoming transfers is as good as the starters that transferred to other programs such as UT (Coleman, Gilliam, Campbell and Lane), and the 2026 class players that Franklin recruited for PSU that left but that could have played for PSU in 2026 such as Seig, Wiggins, Mickens, and the WR Brown.

Seems that PSU football will get some wins in 2026 but the path to rebuild roster talent will hopefully include a 2027 class with 5+ high talent immediate starters and success in the portal next January that yields another 5+ high talent starters. There will be a good many holes to fill again after the 2026 season.

I saw this on FB. If true, it is crazy and a bunch of players are going to end up out in the cold

There are still quite a few of those kids who will find their way onto power five rosters. There’s another group that will still play division one and be on lower level rosters and then there’s a few more that will play at some other level of football, potentially junior college or something.
I guess technically even some of them could go into the NFL and get free agent deals since they won’t be drafted but at least half of those kids maybe no longer playing football after a poor decision to enter the portal

I wonder if we could get a few for depth at a discount. I am just surprised by the numbers

It's more of an improved team culture thing for me. Effort and watching each other's back. Again, the Indiana, not Oregon dynamic.

Getting Spell back to a PSU commitment would be a great first step in getting momentum for the 2027 class which has a bumper crop of talent in PA. And Spell could be a class leader by getting in the ears of some of the other top PA players.

As the top RB nationally in this class his commitment would also help with top players around the country.

About the only good thing about having a roster somewhat depleted of top talent backups is that top high school players that expect to play early in their college careers will see that opportunity at PSU.

RBs can see the field early and the #1 RB would probably immediately get carries. Same is true for WR and there are some special WRs in PA's 2027 class. OL, DTs, QBs, DTs, etc. often need some time to marinate.

That's true. But the elite talent can get on the field at about any position, especially on a roster that's not deep in talent. Even OSU an every year top 5 class school plays their top freshmen pretty much across all positions. Top talent isn't planning on being at a school for 5 years and doesn;t want to redshirt. Even at DT. But with a depleted roster there will be opportunities for backup snaps at most positions in 2027 pending Cambell's ability to get splash players from the portal next January.

Apparently there are still over 1200 players in the portal that have not yet found a home. Many have since contacted their previous teams to find that there is no room at the inn.

This is where a school like Pitt should be able to pick a handful of decent players up. While we laugh at little brother, the players can go there and get a good education and continue to play power five football. Also have the honor of playing for a program that won over 38 national championships in football.
