4-star California recruit becomes 4th in 2026 class to decommit

The Cignetti Model: Bring in a bunch of proven CFB players (especially at QB) and play a tough, winning style of football.
Huhn was good, but was going to be another Allar in Franklin's idea of an offense. Kraft will ensure that the new HC is a proven Xs & Os guy, a winner, and a dynamic recruiter. Kraft's reputation and job are now on the line.

It’s not like this wasn’t expected, why is everybody making such a big deal about it. Whoever the new coach is will either bring in a bunch of the recruits from the school that he was at or we’ll get on the phone and try to re-recruit all of these kids, actually he’ll do both.

Yep. If PSU gets a dynamic coach with a reputation and he has big NIL $$ that coach will be out poaching recruits down the finish line from other schools instead of how it has worked opposite that in recent years....

Troy Huhn, QB, Mission Hills HS.

The list is getting longer...
And, unfortunately, it will continue to get longer. We will also begin to lose current kids to the portal if there isn’t a “ home run” hire. There really is no room for error. I love Terry Smith, as he was exceptional at what he did under Franklin , but he’s not the long term answer —Most coaches will consider this job radioactive, as the previous coach who just won 13 games ten months ago, got canned. Most don't need/want that stress. They will use it as an interview lever for a pay increase at their current school. —If the administration doesn’t hit a grand slam with this hire ( ie Kirby Smart type), we’ll be hemorrhaging athletes. JMO

I agree. I think in order to stop the bleeding we need a big-name hire...and we need it sooner rather than later.

It was just a terrible no-win choice that Kraft faced: stick with a guy who'd done a lot of good things but was obviously played out after the shocking implosion of this year's team; or fire the guy and deal with the resultant wreckage.

As Bison points out, part of that wreckage was inevitably going to be a stream of recruits decommitting. Where I disagree with Bison is in the notion this can be easily or automatically fixed. I mean, maybe, if the new guy is Urban Meyer, but that's a fantasy.
