Class is falling apart. Looks like whom ever comes in better have lots of NIL $ at their disposal for the portal and an adept eye for talent.Troy Huhn, QB, Mission Hills HS.
The list is getting longer...
Yep. If PSU gets a dynamic coach with a reputation and he has big NIL $$ that coach will be out poaching recruits down the finish line from other schools instead of how it has worked opposite that in recent years....It’s not like this wasn’t expected, why is everybody making such a big deal about it. Whoever the new coach is will either bring in a bunch of the recruits from the school that he was at or we’ll get on the phone and try to re-recruit all of these kids, actually he’ll do both.
And, unfortunately, it will continue to get longer. We will also begin to lose current kids to the portal if there isn’t a “ home run” hire. There really is no room for error. I love Terry Smith, as he was exceptional at what he did under Franklin , but he’s not the long term answer —Most coaches will consider this job radioactive, as the previous coach who just won 13 games ten months ago, got canned. Most don't need/want that stress. They will use it as an interview lever for a pay increase at their current school. —If the administration doesn’t hit a grand slam with this hire ( ie Kirby Smart type), we’ll be hemorrhaging athletes. Now we're up to the 7th and 8th decommitments in the 2026 crop: Alexander Haskell (DT) and Julian Peterson (CB). Both announced today.
How many recruits did A&M lose after firing Jimbo? They came back the next year okay with Elko with an 8-5 season and I think a harder schedule than we have in '26.
It is not like every quality player is leaving our program. Also, the new coach will bring some recruits, it is not like it only flows one negative way as in all leaving and nobody coming. Also, we should be getting a better coach than Franklin who will get $10-$12 million annually so you expect him to be good at....well coaching the team to win some games. And here is a wild thought, the new coach may actually be able to beat some teams with the same level of talent or....wait for it...teams with slightly better talent....gasp!!
Dang right! Who are the better coaches than Franklin we can reasonably get, again?
Time will tell but I think we're looking at 3 years to rebuild. How many recruits did A&M lose after firing Jimbo? They came back the next year okay with Elko with an 8-5 season and I think a harder schedule than we have in '26.

If that is the consensus among candidates then not one of our top picks wants the job because they could be fired at the end of the rebuild. Kraft is not expecting that nor does he have that kind of time.Time will tell but I think we're looking at 3 years to rebuild.
