Allar Big Game Narrative

It is valid, not denying that. However, versus Oregon last year he had a pretty good game with a QBR of 81.7, 20-39, 226 yards, 3TDs. He threw that pick at the end which certainly put a damper on his whole performance. His issue is accuracy in these types of games and 20-39 is not good. I guess you can also blame the WRs for not getting open. My point being that he had some success last time out vs Oregon so hopefully he can build on that in front of a raucous White Out crowd.

We need him to be good, not necessarily elite, IF we can get the run game going but I think he needs to be a little better than the B10 championship game (60 or 65% completion %) on Saturday.

I'm not optimistic that the new WR's will get open any more that last years WR's. For Allar to improve against top 15 teams he needs good protection and he needs to use it by keeping his eyes down field and find the WR's that break free and get them the ball. Plays that he left on the field last season, that in the past he hasn't seen and thrown to. I believe his past performances in big games are as much on him that they were on the WR's.

Fortunately for Allar and the offense, the PSU TE's even without Warren (who Allar could just throw it up over the DB's heads to) seem to be elite pass catchers. Reynolds, Dinkins, and Rappleyea. And they may have to have big enough days to push PSU to the win if the running game doesn't produce like it did in last season's B10 championship game.

Football is a team sport, but yes, Aller needs to come up big. We actually embarrassed Oregon’s run defense in that game, like they embarrassed our pass defense. I look for them to crowd the LOS and force Allar to beat them. Their head coach basically said as much in his press conference.

They lost both DTs in the NFL draft. Steelers drafted one in the first round and the other went in the second.

I'd like to see Allar run the ball 3~5 times to keep the D honest. O's WR killed us with 155 yards receiving and is now playing in the NFL.

If I am CJF, I run, run, run.

I think they should be able to lean on the running game and let Allar manage it. I don't think he'll have to win it with his arm unless the good guys defense flops.

Yep. When the offense that ran for 297 yards last season basically returns in whole, and the other team lost the top talent from their DL, it's hard to imagine that you can't just run the ball again and win going away. But football is a funny game sometimes. And Oregon also reloaded from the portal including getting one of the top Safety's in the country. But I still believe PSU needs to outgain Oregon on the ground by a significant margin to win by 10+ points.....

PSU doesn't seem to run many timing routes where Allar releases the ball before the WR makes his cut. Could that be because the staff doesn't have confidence that Allar and the WRs are in sync and that running suck plays could lead to TOs?

Oregon is going to stack the LOS and make Allar beat them. Wouldn't you do that if you were Oregon?

They probably will try that, but I don't think it matters that much what they do. That would actually be an advantage in the passing game, as it should leave someone open. The key is Drew's psyche. If he's on, we win. If not, it will be a dog fight, because I'm confident that Moore is going to struggle in this one.

Sneaking RBs out of the backfield and TEs into the seams are hopefully incorporated into the passing scheme. Runs and passes of seven yards may not be "explosive", but I'll take it. Plus, UO's DBs might be lying in wait for those long sideline patterns. And it's the old ploy of running time off the clock and keeping the other team's offense of the field. JoePa-level stuff.
