Anyone planning on attending Blue-White?

What do you expect? Weather is not looking good for the moment. Apparently, it's not a scrimmage. Not sure what to expect with the stadium still actively under construction. The team has 30 players who will not be active for Blue-White. It's a totally new staff and half of the players are new. It isn't televised. I wonder how much we even learn from this event this year.

Thoughts?

Again, anyone planning to go?

I am a maybe. Nelhew’s 14 yr old son like to go but not sure if he can go. Never been there so it would be fun.

Weather is also a concern. Don’t wanna walk around in rain all day.

Lste week decision.

Current forecast is a 40% chance of rain practically all day, until 9pm.

I would expect a showcase of drills. QB/WR's vs DB's. Some live running reps. And some other drills. Stuff typical of a regular practice, only slowed down with lots of announcements (hype) of which players are doing the drills.

One thing I can't talk the boss into (i.e. wife) is sitting in the rain for a practice. I managed to get her to the Iowa White Out game a few years ago with a similar forecast. But that was the White Out, payback for Iowa, and we had 45 yard line tickets and a parking space right next to the concourse...... Brought along Frog Tog rain suites and we made it through the game.....

I get it. Rain all day, a dip in temps, for a practice. I think attendance will be down quite a bit. Plus, many fans don't even know who our players or coaches are this year. I hope the changes made are only impacting attendance for this one Blue White game and we aren't killing it off.

Coming from ISU Coach C cannot comprehend the scope and importance of the Blue/White game. He had probably never experienced anything close to it.

Pretty sad because this is his first opportunity to interact with the fans. To build a team identity. For people to learn the names of the players and build an emotional connection.

It is also a major factor in recruiting. Bringing in kids to get a feel for the atmosphere and fan base. Very important to a program that is in a complete rebuild with lots of questions.

After last year’s huge letdown, an all new coaching staff (almost all new), an entirely new roster (almost)….this lost opportunity is a big mistake by Coach.

I don't know that I categorize it as a big mistake, but the weather is going to kill attendance anyway. The "practice" may be ok in lieu of the scrimmage for this year. It seems other teams are going away from spring games as well. I feel like this decision is congruent with Campbell's substance over show style. The team will be on display during the season, when it matters.

It is bad luck with the weather. On a nice Spring day there would have been a decent crowd as PSU alums don't need much of a reason to get back up to State College. Fans are likely looking to get some glimpse of what the team will look like in the Fall, as has been the tradition with the B/W game. I used to take our 2 sons up when they were young and there was an autograph period before the game with the players inside the field which was roped off with the players along the inside of the ropes. The boys loved it.

But I've got a feeling that the weather will put a serious dent in attendance.

OSU and UM I believe had their Spring games last Saturday and they were televised on the BTN. It's not like any coach would run their trick plays during a intersquad scrimmage and give other coaches a heads up on their play book, so even with a practice televising it wouldn't be a bid deal. But the BTN may no have wanted to televise a practice. Who knows..... But the B/W game was a big recruiting weekend so I hope the lack of attendance and atmosphere doesn't impact recruiting much.

Quotes by Campbell make it seem like there will be lots of Offense vs Defense action which will be fun to watch if the fans are told who is in each rep, at least skill position wise.

Teams don’t have them because of fear of injuries.

And the excuse that they don’t want to show opponents what the schemes are or show who the top players are is bogus. We have three OOC games prior to league games and we certainly will play the starters, run our offense and defense.

They won’t show everything but they certainly will show more than they would show in an April scrimmage.
.
Bet attendance is down at most because of it.

In the post "game", CMC was asked how Rojas and Tasch were developing at LB. CMC covered those two but immediately jumped to comment on the many other players who are performing well. The PSU "press" needs to understand that all players on the roster are now our lads, not us versus them.

Did anyone witness or get feedback on the new guys other than Becht's status? How do the key players like the big DL guys look? Depth Chart-wise, does the fast 6'4" WR from Grambling, for example, add anything? Is he being coached up?
I know CMC is still working on things and maybe doesn't want to show his hand, but the gaggle of PSU podcasters don't even go there. Tengwall puts together the best content, but there's a lot, particularly the new guys and depth guys we hear nothing about.
