This is ridiculous. There are multiple changes everyday and it will be worse tomorrow when the Portal opens. It’s a joke and has taken the enjoyment out of following a team, its players and recruits, and watching them develop.

I hope year 2 of the MC era is better as I understand he’s building the roster he wants to go to battle with. But someone with some spine needs to put a new order in place.

I understand and share your frustration but the situation is actually a lot better than I expected. IMO, the tell going forward is how well MC recruits , develops and retains HS players. The portal will still be important in terms of filling holes, but I am hoping for more stability. This year after firing Franklinwas always going to be a circus.

It is hard to be a fan now. I know i am getting long in the tooth, but it is difficult to emotionally engaged and then watch these players go away. We all rooted for Grunk to grow and be successful, and now he is leaving. Are we now supposed to just immediately connect with this Rocco person? Maybe I am not saying it well, but i feel like a sucker right now. I guess i am just rooting for a uniform and not players we watched develop and grow.

I think Grunk entering the portal exemplifies the new college football.

It's possible to leave $100k to $500k on the table if you don't test the market. Right now, no one knows the prices. In a year or two, there will be better knowledge of player worth. It may be that a guy like Shanahan is making more or less than what the market is willing to spend. If he was underpaid by say $50k, then PSU might be willing to pay that, but if he was overpaid by $50k, then Shanahan would stay and maybe work harder so he doesn't become an unrestricted free agent (another outcome from this would be teams releasing (aka firing) players).
Again, once prices are determined by this portal exercise, then things should stabilize.

What the heck is going on over at PSU's Petroleum Engineering Dept.? Yes, there's Pegula, but why are UTA, TAMU, and TT the ones with the billionaire oil tycoon grads? I'm tired of hearing "but we can never compete with those Texas schools 😢" nonsense. I say PSU develop some rich alumni. Apparently, it doesn't have any.

Needs to be changes in portal rules. Limit to just one transfer in five years.

Allow additional transfers if the head coach or the coordinator leaves.

Plus a transfer after graduating if still eligible.

This current system is ridiculous.
Totally illegal until one of two things would happen. Either Congress steps in, not happening, or a CBA is agreed upon which the university presidents do not want. Students would have to become employees.

What legislation would change this?

Well, Congress can step it and create a law or laws to govern the process. They already tried before, but it went nowhere. Thus the court case we're living with. Players, all athletes, had a period of time to fight the judges agreement, but no one did. NIL is now controlled by a clearing house per federal judges orders. It's a complete Wild West sh&t show.

Yep, As I understand it, colleges are limited as institutions in terms of spending, but fan/ alumni/booster collectives are not.

Correct. 20.5 million/year. However, that's a very gray area and there are no real limits on 3rd party orgs.

Absolutely. It was either him or Becht, but Grunk has no reason to stay and sit a year. It would cost him at minimum, one million or more.
It will cost him a lot more than $1 million depending on where he chooses. The new PSU staff turned 3 star Brock Purdy into a top NFL starter. Then they developed 3 star Becht into a 9000+ yd passer in his 1st 3 years. Very few seem to value the big picture and instead are looking at what may amount to pocket change that they can get today. Say Grunk gets an extra $100k to $200k more to sign with Franklin at VT. How many millions would he likely lose over his career by jumping on that?

You can't go home again.
The college FB we became fans of is gone. You no longer become fans of players over their 4 years and talk about them decades later. You now just root for a team like you do the NFL. Free agency is worse in college than in the NFL. Players are mostly just mercenaries. It's a shame 20yts ago, MRob would have never been the PSU QB if the portal and NIL existed
