If ND could only play a FCS schedule, they might find it difficult to be in the top 12 every year.

Let's be honest....we saw the committee do a little ranking ju jitsu this year with Miami and ND. If they wanted to, it's not very hard to make ND #13

Looking at ND's schedule next year, a top 40 level team should have no more than 2 losses. They play only 4 teams with a winning record this year and 2 of those are Navy and 4 loss SMU. A top 12 team should be undefeated with that schedule as there is very little chance of slip up against a schedule with only 2 ranked teams and both are played after a series of much lesser opponents. Essentially, there is no stretch of that schedule should scare any Division 1 school.
If I were the committee, ND gets in next year if they are undefeated but even at 1 loss, they are probably only a top 25 caliber team (certainly not top 12).
