Best Franklin vs OSU quote I have heard

Can you look back on any loss and say that PSU had the better talent? The answer is no
To go from good to great, Franklin must start beating teams with more talent than him.
Penn State's NC victory over Miami is a stunning reminder of Joe Paterno beating better teams.

That's probably true if you look at the top players for each team and how they did in the NFL. But I think that Penn State team had a little more talent than it's given credit for, even on offense. They weren't a bunch of scrubs who were just lucky to be there.

Every great coach occasionally pulls some upsets vs higher ranked, perceived more talented teams. Franklin s dearth of wins in this category is stunning. Until he changes the narrative he will continue to face scrutiny from both the fans and the media. It s year 12, the University has stepped up, it s time to for James to do his part.

Starts this year. Golden opportunity with Oregon coming into the White Out. Can't lose that one. Then OSU in Columbus. Another golden opportunity to get a HUGE monkey off his back. Then on to the playoffs to make a statement.

Look at Kirk Ferentz - he's pulled off several Top 5 wins, but then also frequently loses against some mediocre team where the Iowa talent should be as good or better. I'd take what CJF has done for our program any day and twice on Sunday. Would I like to see some signature wins from him? Yes. But not if it means losses to mid-pack teams we should beat. I think this will be the year where patience is rewarded.

We want both and for the money he gets paid we we should get both, beat the inferior talented teams and spring upsets or win the pick'em games every once in a while. I would say win these games against teams of equal or better talent a third of the time to throw something out there as a metric. Franklin is at less than 10% or something really bad like that.

It is not the fact we lose the big games..... it HOW we lose them... Blowing leads (double digit) late in the 4th, absolute stupid play calling in crucial times, not being able to get 1... just one first down to seal the win, going completely conservative in the 4th, going away from what is working when we could close the game out, absolutely blowing the clock management...... and an oldie but goodie.... running a dumb *** trick play... or just wasting a play - when it is not necessary or appropriate. The list is endless.

There is nothing wrong with losing to a good team but the way we lose... I put all of that on Franklin. Half of the games we could have won. He rightfully deserves the heat. This year he has a great team heading into it. He will have no excuses.

“If you’re gonna be man enough to talk, what’s your name?”

“We have gotten comfortable being great. We will no longer be comfortable being great.”
There is nothing to be gained by confronting fans in the stands and the fact that he doesn't realize that says a lot

Would you take what Day has produced? I think they've underperformed their talent until last year and even then, they still somehow lost to their hated rival for like the 10th straight time (only a slight exaggeration).

No one gets both. No one consistently beats all of the teams with lesser talent and also springs some upsets. There literally is no team doing this year in and year out.

I can think of two years where I feel like Franklin had the team that could do it, but flat got outcoached when it mattered. The 39-38 and 27-26 losses should have been winnable. But in both cases, Ohio State made plays when it had to. We did not.
Some people don't like this but the referines put their foot on the scale when the games are that close for Ohio St and Michigan. That's just how it is.

My 16-year-old son does a Franklin imitation with the first quote to troll me. He thinks it's funny and kind of a jerk move that Franklin was trying to get a student in trouble.

It feels like it. Last year we're up 10-0 and get a big third-down stop, then our DB steps over the receiver, gets a penalty and Ohio State goes on to score. Technically a penalty, but it looked more like instinct than blatant taunting. The game turned after that.

And you watched defenders doing that several other times that same weekend without penalty.

We've had a few over the years. Like the OSU FG where the snap was 3 seconds after the play clock had expired. Or the leaping penalty.

We got penalized vs Michigan for excessive crowd noise. Then of course the extra time that gave Michigan an extra play that led to a TD.

We've also been the beneficiary of a few calls but they seem to come against teams like Minnesota.

I don't know how often that penalty is called but I agree with Ian that it looked more like instinct than taunting.

The things I look at in that game were the TD pass to Wallace that turned into an INT and the 4 failed attempts from the 3 yard line. For some reason PSU can't make the plays at the most important times in big games.

Most of the time we play Ohio State like we're afraid that our offense can't keep up. Even though stats maybe weren't great last year we had some offense. They were just really darn good at goal line defense. I hope Knowles brings that mindset to this team. But I also think our OL was not quite there when we played them. I thought from Oregon on we looked great up front. It might have been a different game if that OL was there.
