For those who missed it, PSU hockey has signed two 5 star players in the current class.....and now this

Lots of Canadian hockey players have been choosing to go the NCAA route instead of junior Canadian leagues because of NHL eligibility rules. NCAA players can jump to the NHL (or it's development leagues) at any time after they are drafted, while the NHL has an agreement with the junior ranks that if you don't make the NHL right away you have to wait at least 2 years before you can move over.

This just came down? Because, we all know, a certain 17 year old wants a shot with the Flyers. So, and let's be real, that isn't happening. So, if he doesn't make it, it's two years in college and not one?

Former Lion Alex Limoges has been a big part of Hershey's recent success. The AHL is a good gig for those tweeners.

If he's drafted out of the NCAA, he can go to the Flyers (or ECHL/AHL) at any time. If he's drafted out of the Canadian junior ranks, he either makes the NHL club right away, or it's back to Canadian juniors for 2 years minimum. AHL and ECHL are not Canadian junior leagues.

The article points out that NIL has now made all previous Canadian league players (which were paid) now eligible for the NCAA, which they weren't before. That's the change. So once players reach 16 or 17, they are eligible for the Canadian junior leagues, and need to make a choice between them or the NCAA route. If you're a superstar or on the cusp, NCAA provides more flexibility.

Correct. 1 year at PSU if we get him. It's close, but I believe we get him.
