Franklin will break his silence on Saturday

Auditioning. That's a good thing.

Yes, and I expect he'll be very gracious...no hard feelings...and who knows, he might even exhort the troops to win the game on Saturday night at Kinnick.

The fact is that if he wants a head coaching job next year, he'll have no trouble getting one. He may have worn out his welcome at Penn State but there will be a bunch of schools happy to roll out the welcome mat for him.

I continue to think he's secretly relieved as hell to get out of Happy Valley and start fresh somewhere else.

I expect him to be gracious. If not he'll be shooting himself in the foot.

I agree that he'll have no problem getting another head coaching job. Maybe Florida.

I agree that he must feel some relief but it still had to be a blow to his ego. People want to leave on their own terms.

Landon Tengwall says James asked Kraft for an extension in March, and was told he needed to beat the big boys first. Franklin went over Kraft's head, and was again told no. So you had that dynamic. Kraft wanted to go all in, and Franklin was worried about the current players being upset by new people being paid more. Going above your boss's head will get you fired eventually most of the time. The loyalty is admirable in a way, but people should have to earn their playing time and NIL through performance, not because they've been around longer.

Franklin should have accepted his own challenge to beat the big boys about eight years ago. Franklin isn't the guy in the new NIL world. Looking for an old school Xs & Os "prick" (per Kevin Horne) who coaches a competitive, tough "band of brothers" (paraphrasing Hackenberg & Sickels). A bunch of "fighters", per Bill O'Brien.

Florida is not hiring him. They lived through the Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier glory years. Franklin has proven he won't get them there.

Why would he be looking for an extension when he had 6 years left on his current contract? If what you say is true it sounds more like he wanted a raise after reaching the semis last year. I guess it could also be his agent pushing instead of him.

Franklin will say the right things on Saturday. Everyone will be impressed. He will rehearse his talking points. People will point out all the wins. Everyone will think PSU is stupid for getting rid of him.....and then after it is all over and Franklin is gone... his top 10 record will be rolled out on tv and reality will kick people in the nuts. PSU has a built in 8-9 game wins..every year. 2-3 tough games ... and 2 big ones... The two big ones are the difference and Franklin lost every one of them.... every dang one.

I am sure he has a non disparage clause in his contract

Why? Why not?
It worked for him last time.
Each good season he had, he demanded more money and a longer contract
