Received a TS briefing on high powered laser testing in the nose of C130s almost 20 years ago. I'm sure similar process and considerable technological improvements over that time. The battery required for this back then was in the belly of the C130. I'm sure this has been miniaturized in comparison. The TS portion was the time it took to burn through targets. The technology itself was fascinating in that there were actually multiple lasers used. One was used for feedback only, that provided specific information to the high-powered laser about the atmospheric conditions and perturbations of the path through the medium. That information was then used to make the high-powered laser slightly unfocused in a way that allowed the atmospheric perturbations to more intensely focus the high-powered laser as if the atmospheric perturbations were an intensifying lens.
