FTB Codutti Allar FIU

These are really great. First, as Condutti points out, Allar has what cannot be taught. He's got a "magic arm". The last play is funny because the WR was underthrown (assuming that wasn't a back shoulder throw on purpose). But Allar threw a ball that drove for sixty yards and it didn't look like it was an effort. It looked like it was a 35 yard throw and it was sixty. I didn't understand that until watching the video.

so that leads to Condutti's other observation. That Allar loves the out patterns. I know, from talking to scouts, that the deep out is the differentiator for NFL QBs. You must have the arm strength to make that throw because it makes the DBs cover the entire field deep. If you don't have arm, the DB has the angle to cover the field while the ball is in the air. I noted that Allar threw a ton of out patterns against Nevada later in the game. I am certain the staff put those plays in to get Allar and the WRs practice because we are going to see this all season.

Lastly, I think there is still a lot of uncertainty between the new WRs and Allar. FIU was the first game where Ross was a featured WR. Those bunching patterns have a ton of reads and reacts. When the O breaks the huddle, they first have to see if the D is man or zone. They then note how the DBs position themselves. Then the WR has to make the right route choice. Allar has to be on the same page. Then the WR has to run a crisp, predictable route, and Allar needs to throw the ball as the WR makes his cut. You can see that, for the most part, Allar is in throwing motion before the WR finishes his cut. Uncertainty leads to late throws and second-guessing. That leads to frustration, aiming the ball, thinking too much, and making bad throws in easy plays (out to Singleton).

I feel better after watching this vid. I think we are still in growing pain mode. The players are still learning eachother. I think Ross missed most of summer camp due to small injuries.

I'll also say that Dinkins, on that one throw, didn't get his hands up soon enough. Allar zipped the ball. It may be the difference between practice speed and game speed.
