What separates us from dominating and just being above average? Tengwall breaks it down:
1. OL isn't blocking who they are supposed to.
2. Singleton is jogging, not running.
What's here is very ugly at times. Donkoh doesn't appear to be 100% back, even if 100% healthy. He, Dawkins, Shelton, they seem to miss their guy at times. The quality of everyone else keeps it a positive play usually, but these missed blocks lead to the tackle.
Singleton just isn't playing at full speed. Multiple of his runs he could have broke for large gains, if not TDs, but he is just jogging like it's practice. I wonder if his jogging pace messed up the 3rd and 7 swing pass.
All in all, our guys aren't getting beat by these non-P4 players which is a huge thing. We just aren't executing. We aren't winning all of our blocks vs Oregon. We have to correct blocking the right man.
One such play that we blocked *ALMOST* correct was Kaytron's TD. Split zone from the OL (Dawkins to the Shelton is Wide zone, right side of line blocks Inside Zone). Dawkins doesn't get up to the Mike. Where he is a step slow, he doesn't get to the edge in time and Allen is 7 yards down the field.
One play we blocked perfectly, but didn't finish was a Singleton run with Allen lead blocking. Everyone blocks the right man, Nick sees the hole, but he gets into the secondary and starts stutter stepping. Turn on the jets bud! Make them catch you.
Small things.
