Have that Ta'Quan Roberson vs Iowa feeling

Ethan Grunkemeyer first start at Iowa, AT NIGHT. New coach, and who knows what else is going on inside the locker room. Iowa will surely load the box to stop the run and force Grunk to beat them. Really tuff duty for Terry.
I'm not expecting much, how about you?

I think Grunk is better prepared than Roberson was, however, I hope the play calling is better than we have had so far.

Again, in my best Shooter (from the film Hoosiers) voice...
"Run Allen twenty times. Throw 10 yarders to the TEs. On D, add a LB and go with a 4-3."
I think that is what Iowa will be waiting on. I think max protect and deep balls or 50/50 balls to someone that will catch it, or break it up at least. Slants, and screens maybe on plays without max protection.

Roberson was grossly unprepared. After the transfer of our back up QB ( Will Levis), we were exposed. —Grunk and Smolik will both be solidly prepared. That said, it will be on the OL to suddenly “gel” for the QB and the team to have success

The race for the backup was very close between Gronk and Smolik. Smolik has been in the program two years and is a RS Soph. Gronk is a RS Freshman. I hope Gronk does great and we never learn the answer to this question.....but....how much of a leach does Gronk have? If he wets the bed, how long before the staff puts in Smolik?

Correct about the OL. They better come to play. Hope to see some max protect for some longer shots downfield. Also want to some toughness out the DL and three LBers. Two is not working.

If Grunk "wets the bed" then there has to be a short leash. They have to then give Smolik a shot.

Agree. As I recall, the real second team QB was in the doghouse. BTW, Roberson is still playing college ball for the Buffalo Bulls (MAC). He is 78 for 133 (58%) and 934 yards with 8TDs and 2 INTs. They are 2-0 in the MAC

I've never bought into the Roberson wasn't prepared by the coaches to be ready for that Iowa game any more than any other backup QB with no real game experience. Maybe the stage was just too big for him at the level of inexperience and he just flopped in his first chance at a very hostile away venue. Iowa realized his inexperience and loaded up the box to make Roberson beat them and he wasn't up to the challenge that day. As I remember the OL didn't do Roberson any favors either as the air seemed to go out of the whole team with the key injuries. Clifford, Mustopher, .....

I'm expecting a much better response under the current circumstances, and with a full week for what's ahead to sink in for Grunk and the team.

Judging by Terry's latest press conference and him alluding to the fact that they are still moping around over James, they are going to get killed.

Gronk played one series against one of the cupcakes and did very well. Drive 90 yds for a td, making several perfect passes.

Granted it was probably against a cupcake second team…….is that a soufflé? But he made very quick decisions and nailed every pass.

The big question is will Coach Ko be given the green light without Franklin micromanaging? Is Gronk prepared enough to runs full offense?

WILL WE ACTUALLY THROW A DEEP BALL???? 😡😾🤷🏽‍♀️
