Do you think Franklin may have told AK to run the same 4 plays over and over again hahaNo way I believe he didn't have a hand in play-calling.

I like what Brent Key has done a lot, but I don't see him leaving Georgia Tech. Also would like to see him without Haynes King before making a judgment. I think Urban is a great coach X's and O's-wise and recruitment-wise, but you need to be ready for the fallout. You'd want to talk to him, at least. My top two active coaches right now that are proven big game winners a would be Kalen DeBoer and Curt Cignetti, in that order. Next would be Marcus Freeman, then Mike Elko. I'd put Matt Rhule on the next tier because he hasn't yet won the big games. He does have an excuse for that given the talent levels he's worked with. Matt Campbell would be right there as well. For those not coaching, besides Meyer you'd at least want to talk to Nick Saban. I'd even put a feeler out to Chris Petersen, but he's likely done coaching. In a world where dreams came true, my choice would be Urban Meyer. The buzz factor would be off the charts. Recruiting and the portal market would be instantly energized. The program, which is now in total disarray, would be reborn overnight.
Unfortunately, this is Fantasy Land because I can't see it happening.
An up-and-coming coordinator somewhere is just not big enough for the job at hand, in my view.
Matt Rhule excites me not at all but he'll obviously be in the mix.
And then there's guys like recent coaching superstar Cignetti and also Eliah Drinkwitz who's had a lot of success at Missouri. It's hard to see Cignetti leaving Indiana for the situation he'd be facing at Penn State. Drinkwitz...maybe.
Other possibilities in the same general vein: Matt Campbell (Iowa State), Manny Diaz (Duke), and Brent Key (Georgia Tech).
Key in particular intrigues me. He was one of the top OL coaches in the country at Alabama before leaving for the head job at Tech and turning that program around. In the process, he compiled a track record of actually winning "big games."
In the end, I think we need somebody who immediately moves the proverbial needle because as things stand, we've got some recruits decommitting and an aura of dissension and chaos surrounding the program. We need a guy whose name and record by themselves turn that around.
I forgot about Key. I do hope he's been/being contacted and agrees to interview. In a world where dreams came true, my choice would be Urban Meyer. The buzz factor would be off the charts. He seemed to have a lot of input into how the QBs did things. I think that's why Drew seemed like he was overthinking everything. I wouldn't be surprised if FCJF told AK not to run anything that might result in a turnover.Do you think Franklin may have told AK to run the same 4 plays over and over again haha
I think Coach Petersen has a special needs child and is probably happy doing the TV studio show which leaves him with lots of family time.I like what Brent Key has done a lot, but I don't see him leaving Georgia Tech. I wasn't aware of that. I knew he wanted to spend more time with family. Probably not the type that would enjoy the NIL stuff. I guess we can cross him off the list.I think Coach Petersen has a special needs child and is probably happy doing the TV studio show which leaves him with lots of family time.
Yes but there's a cap in the sense you can only spend what you've got. I think PSU has had more than 90% of D1 programs but far less than OSU, Oregon, Texas, etc.Sorry, but there is no salary cap. Your statement would be like saying there was a salary cap in the NFL before there was a salary cap because it was limited by what the owners could pay. Hell, there isn't even a luxury tax like MLB. If Bama boosters want to spend $200M, they can. There is no rule against it.
Neither is going to happen. I hope I’m wrong but this team is a dumpster fire. The seniors are preoccupied with their draft stock, and the good underclassmen are waiting for January to take their portal trips. That would be the best outcome of all IMO.

Do you really think Franklin has had an unlimited checking account? Or that boosters have been holding out until now?
I understand that. I also understand if we had enough money to get a player like Caleb Downs UCLA & NW wouldn't have been able to run all over us."PSU has had more than 90% of D1 programs but far less than OSU, Oregon, Texas, etc."
There comes a point where money doesn't take a team to the next step. The planets need to align. More millionaire 21years-olds may even create dysfunction. Diminishing returns. See Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers without Ohtani, Oregon, Horns and Ags, etc. A certain money threshold gets teams into maybe the top 15, but then they need to win in the playoffs. If there were a 12-team playoff over the past ten years, PSU would have been in its fair share. Right now, it's getting a coach in there that knows what it takes. There's enough money for such a coach to get the players that are needed. Controlling the LOS, discipline, some seasoned coordinators, and calling the right play at the right time may be some of those aligning planets.
Caleb Downs would have been affordable. But Franklin, his system, his OC, and his and game day brain farts, along with judgement of talent brought the program to where it is now. It's the planets aligning.I understand that. I also understand if we had enough money to get a player like Caleb Downs UCLA & NW wouldn't have been able to run all over us.
I disagree. We couldn't even keep Iheanacho or Spell who are going across the country to play for Oregon.Caleb Downs would have been affordable.
Or, wanted to spend money elsewhere. Why didn't Oregon pay for Downs? Maybe pick up Spell in two years. Why did the Phillies extend Nola? Why did Bud Light management do what it did? Poor strategy and decision making. There are a lot of variables, but pay a seasoned winner like Meyer and the roster and winning will come.I disagree. We couldn't even keep Iheanacho or Spell who are going across the country to play for Oregon.
I thought Terry Smith said A.J.Harris was benched because of an injury?
My theory is that the disappointment of the first 2 losses caused some big $ donors to rethink their "giving" and that they came forward to Kraft to support the coaching change in combination with giving more to NIL to attract the next coach and equip that coach to get PSU more talent in addition to better coaching."PSU has had more than 90% of D1 programs but far less than OSU, Oregon, Texas, etc."

That would be the rational thing to do. The brand is taking a beating and the customers/benefactors are tired of the nonsense. My theory is that the disappointment of the first 2 losses caused some big $ donors to rethink their "giving" and that they came forward to Kraft to support the coaching change in combination with giving more to NIL to attract the next coach and equip that coach to get PSU more talent in addition to better coaching.
