I'm gonna say it about this board

Sounds complicated to do.

Maybe just limit people to a certain number per day. Say 15-20? Or 10–15 per thread. That should be plenty to get your point across and stop the relentless and childish back n forth that ruins so many threads. And would make more judicious in their content

If possible, allow unlimited posts on a game day thread. Or a couple few threads. Maybe even allow unlimited on Mondays for game post mortems. 🤷
That's not a bad idea - limiting posts per day or thread. Not sure if I'll do any type of limiting or not. We only seem to have a couple of posters who have a low signal-to-noise ratio. I don't want to mess up game day posting, for sure. One thing I'm thinking of doing for game day is having a sub-forum for each game. You want 100+ topics under that sub-forum, go for it. I may move some topics off the main football board to the sub if they just seem germane to that week's game. What I want to avoid as much as possible following games are meltdown posts, especially regarding coaches or individual players. For players, especially. I have no problem with fair criticism, but I want everyone to think whether they would say what they're posting if the player and his parents were known to be reading it.

I have a few ideas I'm thinking about that I may try if I can figure out how to do them. I don't want to ban anyone or stop productive posters, but I feel some people have to chime in on everything even if people don't find their replies helpful. Sometimes OP is just doing it to troll. I'm thinking about requiring a post to reaction score ratio above a certain level (say at least ..50) to be an unrestricted poster. If your score lags you may see your ability to post throttled for some period of time. The idea is to "train" users to create content people respond to. Or to at least not dominate conversations.

If you haven't noticed, new names are already being "banked" without posting. I'm sure you know who's doing it.

IP Extractor is a great tool.

I like this board and Tom’s board, but what this board does well is that it is less tightly controlled and as such easier to spot quality content with all the different threads. And there does seem to be more football content here. Again, I like Tom’s board, and there are a number of really great posters there, but this one may be better for football content and the associated conversations.

It seems mainly because we seem to be sticking to PSU football.

No threads clogging up the top of the front page on women's lacross, politics, or turning the board into an obituary board..... EDIT: And superman movies, and.....

Hope it continues going forward.

And tsunamil warnings

I thought some west coast people may be reading.

Dump it now, IDK.
Whatever that means. Don't those west coast people have news. It would be a feeble idiot that comes to this board for news about severe weather.

But I was hoping that those here would stick to PSU football, so I wouldn't have to put them on ignore, as most of those that get sidelined by OT topics also do add something to the football discussions........

And tsunamil warnings
I consider something like that to be important to warn people that may be in harm's way. Or, to get quick information on people who have loved ones in harm's way. I fear the football board will wither if some scope isn't added. A quick look shows that the General Board is getting the most activity by far and away. But I also sense people don't want to see the political drivel if they just want to see an RIP, Advice Column, or Current News post. Case in piont was the many COVID and COVID vaccine threads. You had to go through dozens of BS posts to finally get to a post that had meaningful information. If you've got to navigate to a new board and then go through dozens of posts that may be too much friction.

I am sure anyone in a tsunami warning zone gets immediate alerts on their cell phone. I love the term feeble idiot!

Well there are guys like Knox that never leave the board so this would be his warning lol

I don't mind these current events posts or even the famous Obits on the football board but it will require the mod to analyze them and some policing if necessary. It can't disintegrate into political bickering or just a general clown show of dumb bantering.

I think someone had the idea of creating a general sports board where things like a sports obit could go (Ryne Sandberg would be an example now). The current events like a tsunami is benign enough not to trigger a political meltdown free for all on the football board but other current events will do that so perhaps just have a current events board. Maybe all of this exists on the site now.

Yes, the OT posts of any sort on the football board are a slippery slope. And allowing them would require many hours of additional mod work. No one will be happy with where the line is drawn. For these reasons, they do not belong on the football board unless IANit wants a constant headache and a constant X% of the posters pi$$ed off over it.

He already has the right idea. He created legitimate spaces for these topics. You want to engage on those topics; you go to the proper space for it. Less to moderate. Less for anyone to be unclear or upset about. Football means football. You know what you are getting when you go there. You aren't getting football with a side of sifting through politics or obits or world events. You get football.

I do like the idea of an all sports board. Wresting is fine on its own. Basketball and hockey may end up that way. But a catch all other than football board would be reasonable.

The other sports board is up but totally dead. The only post is the one Spin posted on the FB board about the Augusta National flood damage that got moved there.

I think you are right. I would be fine with other sports popping up in the FB board but it requires more work from Ian and starts to open the door for other stuff to creep in.

Ian - I have a question. What is your thinking once CFB season starts.....my thoughts are about general CFB threads/posts? Are you going to create a general cfb board? What about on game days when there is a lot of activity? On the Rivals board there would simply be an other games thread and if something crazy happened football related that would be a thread. Will you allow game day threads that are general CFB to be on the FB board or send people to a CFB board? Maybe you allow it on the FB board for Saturday since you will maximize engagement and it is timely obviously then you could move them to a general CFB board starting Sunday. I think off the field CFB news like the Michigan scandal, coach getting fired whatever can just start and always live on the CFB board.
