Josh Pate interviews Franklin

I'm not impressed that our recruiting is better than VT.

None of the top 5 from PA last year or this year.
Respectfully, you seem too be expecting miracles. We had a decade of bluster and poor return on the investment of coaching salaries, recruited talent and NIL.

MC has been on the job for 4.5 months.

The "Top 5 from PA" have been recruited for ~3 yrs and you are complaining that MC hasn't flipped any of them in 4.5 months? A period which included the holidays, him moving his family 1000miles, hiring a staff, assessing and retaining current players in the age of NIL, and at the end of the 26 recruiting cycle. What are your expectations of what MC should have achieved in his first 4.5mos?

Hiller #4 in the nation to FL
Spell #7 in the nation to GA
Halter #57 in the nation to ND

Of course I think it would benefit PSU to have players like that.
Jim Kelly, Eddie George, Rocket Ismail, LeSean McCoy... A fact of life. It happens.

My primary complaint is that the administration fired Franklin without a replacement in mind. It took PSU longer to get a replacement than teams who fired their coach much later.

I'm also critical that Terry Smith wasn't able to keep any of the kids he recruited and that the PSU brand no longer seems to have much sway.

Neither of those are Campbell's fault but he is getting paid $9 million per year to get things straightened out. I expected 3 years to get back to the playoffs but early recruiting hasn't been great.

Yes but we still had strong classes. I don't share your opinion that we can be a playoff team by getting 3* kids from the portal and coaching them up.
3*/4* kids from HS, then coach up; expensive proven stars at the most critical positions (QB, WR, RB, DE) from the portal. And bringing in any of the 3 best players in any DI program, be it Texas State, App State, or Iowa State, is also a great strategy for filling out a roster with quality. Attending ASU games from time to time, I got to see Will Leavitt, Cam Skattebo, Jayden Daniels, Jordyn Tyson, and quite a few more where only one of them would greatly improve any roster. A lot of very good players are out there. And most, if not all, are already listed in CMC's spreadsheet.

What does any of that have to go with MC?

JF sold JF vibes. He didn't sell PSU. Terry had no chance to try to sell PSU when JF was only selling JF vibes.
