Not to beat a dead horse, but some mock drafts have Singletonn100 spots behind Allen.

Allar isn't a high round pick in many drafts.

We have a firsr round guard... that's it.

We won’t know how good anyone is until they actually play. First round or free agent…..the proof’s in the pudding. —-Mock drafts are subjective and a ( somewhat educated)“shot in the dark”. —-Pro bowls and HOF’s are polluted with non first round talent.
 
If you can't stop the running up the middle, give up a lot of third and very longs, and have no WRs who can get separation, among other things, then the benefits of having some talented RBs, DEs, and CBs are somewhat negated.
 
Hard to run with Kotelnicki throwing dink and dunk to allow defense to stay near LOS. No 15+ yard passing.
Blame belongs to K, not Drew or Singleton.
Terry forced K to throw deep. N9 9ne can run against 8 and 9 defenders in the box.
Players lost their confidence trying to execute a lousy offense.
I predict that both Allen and Singleton will be NFL starters someday.

Another way to look at it is that Franklin managed to make a 5 star QB into a projected 3rd/4th round draft choice due to the lack of development Allar got within Franklin's coaching and failure to call plays to Allar's strengths.

Similar comments could be made about other players that were very high rated recruits that didn't develop into high NFL rated players. Franklin had and still has a reputation for identifying talented players, but he sure couldn't find talented WR's the last few years. At least one's that he could talk into playing for him.

But the reality is that PSU under achieved in big games under Franklin and his big game game plans were consistently poor. And since PSU did have some NFL talent on this past season's team, surely enough to beat UCLA and Northwestern, that was the icing on the cake for Franklin's firing. Franklin's own hype befor the 2025 season likely also didn't help his cause as he himself said the team had the talent to get back to the playoffs. Given that once Terry Smith took over the team played Indiana the best that any team played against them including in the playoffs it seems that Franklin's firing was the right thing to do. If he couldn't beat UCLA or Northwestern it's hard to believe he could have guided the team to even a close loss to IU. Even though PSU may have as many as 8 players drafted later this week......

What I can tell you is that Singleton running into the first tackler he saw, and falling over hurt our offense.

Still think Singleton should have been converted to wr.

When coach K held the passing game short, there were no holes with 8-9 in the box. IMHO, SingIeton will have a very good NFL career with hod coaching. Coach Smith was smart and ordered K to add the intermediate and long passes.

You should watch Singleton's runs.

Things that were apparent to me during the 2024 season became so glaringly apparent in 2025.

Singleton runs into tacklers vs running away from them
Singleton goes down at first contact almost always
Singleton has zero vision

Franklin held the team back keeping Singleton in the starting lineup

Go back and watch his high school tapes. His style was to hit the hole at full speed then make a cut to get past linebackers.


He never adapted to college ball and zone blocking. Backs have to find the hole first, then accelerate. And with a poor passing game there were few holes to hit.

I tend to believe that football is 70% chaotic or unplanned after the ball is snapped. Yea, Codutti can get to the micro level of technique as if everything can be scripted, but in most cases, a combo of successes (blocks that work), failures (a missed block, or a missed read or tackle by a defender), and some luck is how things go. Intuition or instincts by a RB help in these situations. With that said, was Singleton instructed to not follow his instincts, but to be more rules-based like seeking out blockers to get behind? With micromanager BGJ running things, then who knows? ....We now turn to QB management and Allar.

He did not forget how to run after 3 good years. IMHO, a combination of scheme and a new rb coach had a had effect

I think it's a chicken and egg thing for some. Allar dropped from a possible first round grade because we lost 3 games and he was injured. Beat Oregon and the narrative is much different. He's a first round talent in terms of measurables. He was not coached well, his receivers were average at best, and PSU did little to scheme people open. That said, Allar needed to overcome that in order to go higher. He's left doubts. Most have Singleton ranked ahead of Allen in terms of draft grade, which is silly. Allen was our offensive MVP last year. If Franklin had leaned on him early he's probably still at PSU and some of our players look better at 11-2 or 12-3. At 7-6 with a 6-game losing streak there's no halo effect.
