tOSU fans were ready to fire him 3 years ago because he constantly underperformed tOSU's recruiting rankings. Just the opposite of Franklin. That, plus the ridiculous losses to Michigan. Last night, they started calling for his head again, just after winning a Natty last year. Fans are absolute idiots.

Fans actually believe this sh&t is easy. Just go buy a team and it's an automatic Natty. The Yankees say hello. Even today, many of our fans believe next year is an easy 9-10 win season. I'm like, did you see this year? Do you see all the upsets every weekend? I had a dude on 247 giving me sh&t about NW and no way we would lose. I told him. Have you seen NW since they fired Pat? Seen their record? These teams in the B1G don't just lay down, and no coach ever believes any game is a gimmie. Boom. What happens next? We lose to NW. It happens. Hell, I remember when Purdue blew tOSU out by over 20. No game should be take for granted. The other team always shows up.

Ever year there will be gaps, whether in talent, coaching, or team leaders. The trick is to recognize them and fix or cover for them. OSU didn't have a replacement for Judkins and some pieces were missing at the LOS. Franklin IMO misread the Kotelnicki-Allar inconguence, the weaknesses of the WR/DL/LB rooms, and maybe his own management abilities and style.
It may be that in this era of portals and parity, paying for a coach who is a 4-D chess guy who can identify core needs and clearly see weaknesses is job 1.

IMO recruiting isn't a thing anymore like it was.

So you move to the NFL style of coaching. Not these mediocre guys who can sell top recruits.

That being said, Day still out talents 90% of his opponents in a huge way.

They were ready to fire him last year when I was talking to a number of their fans at the B10 championship game (they had already bought tickets).
