My take on the Nevada game

It's difficult to take much away from a game with a much weaker opponent but....

1) DDS looked really good
2) Pena showed a burst of speed and Hudson showed good hands.
3) Only 135 yds rushing by a supposedly superior OL?
4) PSU gave up way too many yds on QB runs up the middle (DT problem?)
5) The temporary stadium seating didn't look too bad on TV
6) Lots of empty seats in the student section.

Agree with one and two, three is disappointing as well, I think part of it is not showing anything creative but definitely OL should’ve had more push.
number four I’ll give credit to the quarterback as he’s very mobile and once he saw Lane he took off. Probably more of a linebacker issue than defensive tackle. Five yes surprised it looked that good and six, it was a holiday weekend so not completely surprising Based on the competition.

We didn't seem to even try to run after going up 17-0. 55 yards on the 1st 3 possessions (one of which got fouled up by the off target snap inside their 20) and that was mixing in the run and pass.

We definitely should have had more push at other times. Still, it's hard to complain about a zero punt day.

I'm still not confident the OL can open sufficient gaps, particularly in crunch time, when schemes are vanilla and hand-offs are four yards behind the LOS. Opposing LBs and Safeties read and quickly get to the point of attack. I would like to see some experimentation in QB under center with an "I" or split backfield, with a FB either leading the TB or hitting the 3 hole with the TB hitting the 4 hole. 1960's stuff. In other words, some counters where the ball gets to the hole quickly. Just looking at OSU's D tells me any delayed handoff or just powering the ball ain't gonna work.

Listen to CJFs post game presser. They had a plan. He said their red zone game looked bad but they tried stuff out that they normally wouldn’t have. Also, they wanted the Xfer WRs to get the sight lines of the stadium, used to the crowd size and timing with Allar.
