Matt Rhule will obviously be considered, but has he won a big game yet? Just seems like Franklin again.

Curt Cignetti can win a big game, but why would he leave Indiana? He seems to be able to win there and has much lower expectations. He does have a buyout.

Dan Mullen? Has PA ties, but seems a little boring. Has failed in high-profile jobs before.

Manny Dias? Likely a good recruiter, but not much of an upgrade over Franklin on game day, if at all.

Can't see Urban Meyer or Nick Saban coming to PSU. I like Lane Kiffin's sense of humor, but I don't see him as much of an upgrade over James.

I was really impressed with what Lincoln Riley did with USC last night vs UM. His offfense is aggressive. But he's already making 11.5 million per year and why would anyone leave USC for PSU. He's from Texas and played college ball at TTech. And he's only 42.

May have come to replace a legend like Joe, but not to clean up a mess.....

It is certainly the most attractive job open currently. If your serious goal is a National Championship, you need a top recruiter and you have to provide unlimited NIL money. How much NIL money you can come up with will determine how great of a top recruiter you will attract.

From a friend with a friend in the know:

"Inside word from PSU is it was either Pegula or Adidas that financed the firing"
It may be true, but coaching buyouts aren't generally as onerous as they sound. They aren't lump sum deals and the coaches usually mitigate damages by taking another job.
