Nice open job interview by Franklin.

Franklin was quite an optimist in saying he's going to win a NC at his next head coaching team.

If he couldn't win one at PSU with all the support, facilities, and best game day atmosphere, he doesn't have a farts chance in a wind storm at the low level P4 destination he's more than likely going to end up at....
That’s probably true, but he is probably going to end up with a decent gig. The press has been pretty positive for him over the past 24 hours, of course they mention he can’t win the big game, but they talk about the positives. With things being fluid out there, he could end up at Auburn, Ole Miss, UNC, UCLA, even Stanford. If openings were to come up, sports writers from these schools have mentioned Franklin as a top candidate.

Franklin is playing with himself.

Those schools seem like possible landind spots, but the SEC is all about winning and winning the big games, not being a "players coach" and helping players get their degrees. So out of that list Stanford and UNC would seem like the best fits and I really don't see him taking it to the house with those schools. UCLA, who knows.

But it will be interesting to see where he lands.

We hear that term "player's coach" a lot and it's usually used in a complimentary way.

But sometimes "player's coaches" end up letting the inmates run the asylum.

It's good to be able to connect with players but not at the expense of team cohesion and discipline.

Nobody ever called Vince Lombardi a player's coach but when all was said and done, his players said he was the best thing to ever happen to them.

Somebody has to be in charge of a football team and if that somebody is doing his job, there are times when he will not be liked, which is OK...hell, it's necessary...as long as he is consistent and fair as all great coaches are.
Chuck Knoll, Bill Bellicheck, Bill Parcells. Joe Paterno.

Saban would not put up with any of what happened at PSU.... excuses... record against to 10, players celebrating over average plays, lack of discipline, lack of execution, details... all of it.... Saban can say all he wants (and I like Saban) but he would not put up with any of the crap at PSU under Franklin..

Im not calling you out... Just saying..
I think Saban is pissed because he contacted Penn State interested in the job and they blew him off! 😹

Saban said what Franklin wanted to say but couldn't.

Franklin also left no doubt that he'll be coaching again...and soon...like next year for sure.

I have to wonder whether he'll be taking some of our players with him.

There was never any chance that he was going to dump on Penn State in this interview but at the same time he definitely didn't do the program any favors with what he said...and what he didn't say.

Good luck to him moving forward. He did an awful lot of good things at Penn State but he was clearly played out and was not going to get the team over the hump to his desired "elite" status.
Saban and Franklin have the same agent.

Yahoo Sports writer Dan Wolken: "I’d be hesitant to hire James Franklin". "Excellent program builder obviously but all these games now are coming down to the 4th quarter. Game management has never been more at a premium, and it’s the one thing he’s been really bad at forever."
Yeah, next time I listen to a sports writer will be the 1st, especially, Wolken. The same clown who attacked anyone who wanted to play football in 2020. He's nothing but an attention whore.

Saban said it was "unfair as hell" to fire Franklin. What I think he really meant is he's worried that PSU may get a coach capable of beating the Alabamas and Georgias of the world now.
I disagree. I think Saban is being sincere. When people were saying that Ryan day should be fired after losing to Michigan last year, Saban strongly came out and said that Ryan day was a good coach. Also, in the early '80s, Saban was a DB coach for Ohio State when it gave up 600 yards to Illinois. He felt he was unfairly fired from his position. Based on those two situations, I believe he is giving his true opinions.

On the other hand, I disagree with Saban and think you had no choice but to fire Franklin. To me there was a lot of commonality between John Cooper and franklin.
