Bias in rankings goes back nearly 60 years. The common argument back then was that PSU played "eastern" football which was inferior to the SWC and Big8 conference schedules. There is a poster from the old board that still argues in a passive aggressive manner that PSU (Paterno) does not get credit for the great teams of the 60's, 70's and 80's because of "inferior non-conference type schedules".Yes, we now see how fraudulent were the CFP committee's antics surrounding its playoff selection of 3-loss Alabama, which got wiped out by Georgia in their CCG but didn't drop one single notch in the final ranking because...SEC!!!
Basically, when cheating became legal and available to everyone...when everyone got to play by the same rules and you could bring the money in by the front door instead of the back...the myth of SEC superiority was exposed.
They were over before they started, because it was a myth to begin with.
