Penn State defensive end Jordan Mayer is no longer with the Nittany Lions

Wonder what this has to say about the development of the DE position, if anything.
Tells me Mayer realized he still couldn't sniff game snaps next fall.

When he came from I believe Wisconsin a couple hears back it seemed like he would get in the S&C program and come out that season bigger and stronger an in the rotation. Surely by the next season. But with all the player turnover at DE since he arrived he still can't get on the field (my interpretation). Hope he finds a team where he can get on the field for the remaining 2 years of eligibility he has. Was a redshirt Soph last season and will be a redshirt Junior where ever he ends up. Or maybe he is just giving up football to focus on his education.....

Since there is no Spring transfer portal window this year, Mayer may have to go to a DII school or sit out until next season if he's not giving up football.

I don't understand the problem with dropping down and playing for a Bucknell or a W&M if their is no pro football in one's future. Great schools, okay football. Big fish, little pond kind of thing. Out here, Big Sky football is decent. NAU has been known to give UA and ASU fits and those Montana teams are always tough. And the big sky is impressive.

Yep, and some of those schools provide a very good education which hopefully is in the equation for picking a destination for players that drop down to get on the field and enjoy their last years of competitive football.
