There are 45,000 commercial flights daily. Each flight assumes that the pilots are of sound mind. That is 16 million each year.

And Air Malaysia flt 370 was possibly caused by an "unsound" crew member. As with 100 year floods and even intersections with too many accidents, they are opportunities for further regs, technologies, and other precautions. That's as good as it probably gets.
