I'm not the right person to answer these questions. Maybe another poster that follows basketball closer can help.
 
Do NYC playgrounds still develop any basketball players or is PSU recruiting now relegated to the Balkans and Carpathians?

The bad news just keeps on coming for coach Rhoades. I was excited about coach Rhoades when he came from VCU based on what he did at VCU but his tenure at PSU seems over due to end at this point. Player retention in the NIL era is tough to do but necessary and if a coach can't do it he can't build a program into much of a winner.....

How did Rhoades, Kraft, the "GM", etc. not see this or at least plan contingencies across multiple scenarios? IMHO, have a payroll budgeted, know what each current player is worth, and on a spreadsheet have a list of possible replacements and an estimate of their respective values. The shooting guard from Lithuania? The point guard from Murray State? The center from Madrid? Whatever, but don't be surprised and flatfooted.

Perhaps they are fine with grabbing some of the thousands of players in the portal over those who have left. For example, Mingo may be talented but was he worth whatever NIL commitment they tied up into him? You could argue that the results of the season proved that many of our players were not worth their NIL whatever it was. PSU basketball was horrible this year. Maybe an almost entirely new cast of players is the best option?

It would have to be the only option, but do they have the wherewithal to assemble a competitive team? The ability to not only "purchase" players, but having an understanding of Big10 style and to get the players who can make it happen. Again, a big school in Ann Arbor MI, for example, sees what needs to be done and just does it, in both basketball and hockey.
