PSU / Villanova snap counts

My take:

Howard and Denmark needed to play more.

Singleton needed to play less.

I'd have liked to see Martin get 4-6 carries, unless the workload will finally get him running harder and cutting more decisively.

On D:

Nice to see Kemajou and Wafle get serious number of snaps as they both/each could be next man up during the season.

Same with Speca and Tatsch, and to a lessor extent Wylie at LB. At this point Deluka just needed to stay healthy in the OOC games.

Lane got a nice workload and set him up to take a significant role at Safety going forward. Mack starting really puts him, Belgrave-Shorter and Toure on track to be continued contributors at Safety as well.

With his snaps and performance Joseph may join Dixon as true freshmen CB's that get "green lighted".... Terry Smith is a flat out great CB coach. And CB recruiter.

Looking at the season counts, the starting D looks to be fairly rested. Hopefully that shows up as fresh and healthy later in the season.

Would like to have seen more of the three RBs competing for RB3. You can't break through if you're not given reps. Agree, Singleton should have played less.

Maybe the number of snaps reflect the $$$ paid to retain a player. It may not apply in this case, but human nature says a coach doesn't want to look as though he made a bad decision.

At this point, I don't think they want one to break through. They can play seniority with Cam getting the few reps. They gotta keep these 5 through January now. Then, the real competition begins.
If they don't give the other sophs some carries I'll be surprised if all of the 5 are at PSU in January.......

You give 3 players reps, there's somebody out there saying "I need a rb." The staff may not truly trust them, but I think it's all about retention. Somebody is leaving come portal season regardless in my book. I'd rather lose the least likely to ever contribute than lose this year's RB3.
