Reports are that Ozzy Osbourne passed away at age 76

Sherriff Coffee

He told one of the best stories I've ever heard. Apparently, he was having morning coffee reading the newspaper in his underwear and a robe. There was a knock at the door and he answers it seeing two young men he took to be his son's friends. He simply said "c'mon in" and sits back down reading his paper and having coffee. After a few minutes, he looks up to see a dozen people milling around his house looking at his books, kitchen ware and other personal items. It turns out a Hollywood tour or the stars' homes bus had stopped by to point out his house. Two young men took it upon themselves to knock on his door and he let them in. So the two young men ushered everyone else in too. Can you imagine being welcomed into Ozzy's home and seeing him sitting there drinking coffee and reading the papers in a very casual way?

RIP age 76. Apparently, he gave his farewell concert a few weeks ago.

There is actually a separate board for this.

There is actually a separate board for this.

The board owners are going to have to make a dicision on this. This board is dead. A lot to do with it being off season but they have to be concerned. There are way too many boards. Many are not used. BBall has 3 threads. The Obit board has 5. Mature themes, 4. Announcements 2. Board info, 2. Happy Valley free for all, 3.

Personally, it is not conducive to visit ten different boards to see what the buzz is. It is like having to go from Netflix, to Prime, to MAX, to Apple to browse TV shows as opposed to changing channels.

The value of this board is that you could go to one place and engage in an interesting thread, be it recent movie reviews, cutting the cord, obits, funny jokes, Penn State Admin news, and dozens of other topics.

My advice to the board owners is to pare down the number of boards and open this up to mostly football, but allow odds and ends postings, or this board will wither and go away.

In the meantime, General Free for all has 127 threads. Football has 57 (less than half). No other board has more than 8 (hockey, while enjoying the greatest off-season in history).

There are probably too many bins. But I can see how There is no Ian wants to keep it orderly. I would respect that and maybe give him some feedback that there are too many boards. But the is not football or sports related at all, so at best I would put it on the general discussion board.

Maybe it irks me more because I generally detest that celebrity deaths seem to carry more importance than others. Maybe I'm just not fond of celebrities. Unfortunately, there are many people that seem to reinforce many celebrities' belief/actions/preaching that they are more important than anyone else.

That is why there are threads. One can read the first post in the thread and decide if they want to read it or not. I would imagine that the board owners want/need to drive engagement. Breaking news would seem to be a primo way to do that. There is a "right size" and when you look at the engagement so far, you can see that it is out of whack or that this board becomes a free-for-all board with occasional PSU football news.

There have been some good PSU football discussions for the offseason. There are several great threads with lots of contributors. If we don't make the football board a free for all then I suspect that engagement will grow over time and definitely during the season.

Where? There are only 57 threads on the entire board. Maybe two.

I'm having quite a few threads that I regularly check in for info and discussions. It is true that on a brand-new board that there isn't the same number of active contributors as boards that were established for decades. But there are some great posters here that are bringing good info and excellent takes on FOOTBALL on the FOOTBALL board.

I'm done discussing this matter with you. You know that this thread has a different board that it is supposed to be posted on and you have consciously chosen to post it in the football board instead. You know that I disagree with that choice and there is no discussion on your actual topic here, so I don't see any reason to have a different opinion. You aren't likely changing your decision, so we'll just wait until the mod moves the thread to the appropriate board or it can die an uninspiring death here.

This site is fine. It's the summer. FB news is minimal. The free for all is a reason to come. There will be much more added to the sports boards during the seasons.
Could probably kill the HV free for all and obits, but other than that, this has been a massive success by IANit setting this up on his own to preserve a place for the Rivals community that detest Lord McAndrew.

"Fine" isn't good enough. What if the Lions settled for "fine"? The board needs to be great. Anyone settling for anything less is a loser.

The board owner right now is me and I'm not beholden to anyone like On3 or Rivals or a parent publication. I don't have to drive engagement. If I have a couple dozen people who are happy with the board I'm happy. It's off to a good start given the time I had to work on it. Do I want the community to be larger? Yes. But I don't have to pay reporters or editors or some network. Just monthly fees for hosting and my time. This is a work in progress. I've done nothing to publicize this other than posts on Rivals and one on On3 that went away fast. The value I see in this board is it is free and a fair number of people who were on the Rivals site did join. I like keeping things separated by topic and keeping the football forum pure. If people don't like that I can pivot. But so far you've had the largest number of non-football threads here. The McAndrew Board is limited to threads under one forum, so everything runs together. That leads to complaints from some that there's too much non-football stuff. I am certainly open to suggestions if that's how people want it to work I have some ideas to drive engagement, but won't get to them right away due to outside forces. One thing I don't mind is mentioning other sites. Got a forum or topic on another site you find interesting or want people to know about? Feel free to mention or link it here as long as you aren't republishing their paid content. I'm not going to pretend they don't exist or discourage anyone from going there. I think that is different than what you'll see on other boards.

God bless you, much appreciated. I think it is good and could be great. My only point is that I am not going to navigate to a separate board just to see who died today or (living three hours from Happy Valley) what new food trucks are opening. But depending upon the day or mood, sometimes I do find it interesting. It is a fine line, and I get what you are attempting to do. Right now, the boards are way overloaded on "free for all" and not on PSU football (although I recognize this is probably the slowest time of year for CF).

It is your board, do whatever you feel is best. I may make other suggestions, but you do what you feel you need to do. I've been in leadership positions and sometimes regret listening to other people. Other times, I regret not listening to other people. Bottom line is, you gotta call your shot.

I'm sure IANit will take into account prevailing opinions. But honestly, I love his organization by board. I prefer not to have a bunch of trash diluting the football board especially as we are heading into football season. I won't go to the obits board usually because it isn't important to me generally. I might look once in awhile but if you are on the internet you aren't going to not hear about a celebrity death. If it were a college football player, well, that seems relevant to me. Maybe even a former college football player is relevant or of interest.

Fair enough. I like Obits because many post the accomplishments of that person. I often learn a lot. For example, I have never been a fan of Billy Joel and found myself watching his HBO thingy. It compartmentalized what a prolific writer and performer he was/is. In one segment, they realize they need a producer and had George Martin attend a concert at Carneigi Hall at the request of their manager (who was very well known and successful). Martin called Joel backstage and said he'd produce him (this is the Beatles' George Martin) if he dumped his band and hired new ones. Joel told him to forget about it. The manager eventually quit and BJ has his wife manage in the interim, then ended up having her manage the band full time. I realized I didn't like Joel because of his punkish Long Island brand. But that he was a pretty good guy. Later, he got strung out and ended up having several lawsuits for and against. He also dropped out of high school.

Anyways....I liked McAndrew being a catch all. I just didn't go into threads that didn't interest me. But people started threads that ended up being of great interest. On the other hand, @IANit makes a great point about pollution. We'll see how it works out. So far, so good.
